You probably just need to reset the warning light. That's the good news. The bad news is that you need the Hammer Diagnostic tool (or equivalent) to reset it. Some people cut the wire that carries the warning signal instead. I can look that up if interested...

Just for chuckles, I went back to my 2005 PET listings for 944 (all models) 1985-1988 USA, Germany, and ROW, and they only list one starter, 951.604.101.00.

However, looking at the current S2 parts listing, there is an option M198 for "Starter 1.7KW" (standard one, 951.604.101.00 shows 1.4KW). The ...
