Re: Iron or alloy timing belt spring tensioner?
For the life of me I have no idea how those threads get stripped. Makes no sense to me. Only thing I can guess is that people are wildly over tensioning the pivot nut -- but even that seems unlikely
I was thinking that during belt replacement, when loosening the nut on the pivot shaft, the ...

Re: Engine M44/07 150hp, M44/05 163hp??
Has anyone changed the piston rings on a 944 without the Alusil and everything worked fine?
I'm not sure I understand your question. The block itself is "alusil", it's an alloy with silicon cristals embedded in the aluminium. It works because the hard silicon is what is rubbing against the ...

Re: Engine M44/07 150hp, M44/05 163hp??
And did you get more power?

Yes, a lot more, but the pistons were one part of a list of upgrades, and I was comparing the newly built motor to my tired old 300 000 kilometer original.
I did have the satisfaction of blowing past a BMW XM getting on the highway, though!

updating to a late 2.5 block
I'm in the middle of building up a new engine based on a new factory block I bought a month ago. I thought I got a great deal when I saw this block available from our biggest classic Porsche parts outfit here in France for only 2500€, and compared to getting my old block sleeved, which would have ...

Re: Engine M44/07 150hp, M44/05 163hp??
If you can find them! I've been looking for OE flat top pistons for a while, and only the dished ones are available new. I looked for months for decent used ones, but didn't find any. If you've found a good set, go for it!

Re: Engine M44/07 150hp, M44/05 163hp??
I imagine many of you know this story, but when Porsche came out with the 924S in 1986 for Europe, they had a problem because with the 163hp 944 motor, the 924S was actually faster than the base 944 of the time, having a lighter, slightly more aerodynamic body. So Porsche decided to use the lower ...

Re: Engine M44/07 150hp, M44/05 163hp??
Of course, while I think those experienced folks above are absolutely right when it comes to reliability and economy, I did choose to go down a very deep rabbit hole...and I am building a new motor after less than a year, but while that "breathed on" N/A motor was running, there was a huge ...

Re: Engine M44/07 150hp, M44/05 163hp??
I thought I'd share something I heard from Tom Barker, the guy who runs Augment Automotive and does some amazing things tuning and prepping 944's of all sorts. He has dyno'd dozens of 944's over ther years and he says that while stock turbos usually come in pulling the equivalent of factory spec ...

Re: European / ROW rear bumper on a USA 1987 951
Ive always liked the euro bumper. It's how the car was originally designed. Looks much better in my opinion than the US bumper. Both my brother and I have euro bumpers on our cars.
Great looking cars! I love those Fuchs style wheels. What size and make are they? The black center ones look very ...

You sure that magnet sticks to the cast body and not just the hardware and spring?
Yep, the arm and the mounting bracket are both painted cast iron. On my other one it's starting to rust in one spot. I think the alloy one was originally a 951 part, and it superceded the ...
