Re: My filthy car

OK, I patched a hole in the driver's seat with a permatex leather repair kit, got the passengers seat moving forward and back, dyed the seats because the bolsters and seat bottoms were worn from being slid across, and got the seats and floor mats back in today. I'm tired, boss.

Now I'm just ...

Re: My filthy car

I bought my car last fall. A guards red 1987 944 NA with the LQ interior, which is either light gray, gray/beige, or greige depending on who you ask.

I don't know how long the car had sat before it was rescued, but along with the mile long punch list of fairly minor mechanical issues, the ...

1987 944 NA DME

Hello all, I have a 1987 porsche 944 NA with an automatic transmission.

This is weird. I'm currently working on detailing the interior. I was inside the car and flipped down the passenger side footwell where I knew the DME lived and found a blue plastc wrapped object that turned out to be the DME ...

Re: Oops

Success!

To recap, I had a working speedometer but the odometer didn't work. I bought a new gear and installed it but during reassembly I pressed too hard on the needle and broke the needle shaft.

I bought a complete cluster off ebay. I had intended to just swap the speedometer from it into my ...

Re: Oops

I did put the replacement speedometer in my original cluster. Everything seems to work but the speedometer.

It looks to me as though the clear plastic part in the picture above is held to the white plastic part with screws. If that whole clear plastic unit can be swapped without stuff flying apart ...

Re: Oops

Well, shoot. I figured that was the case but I was hoping that I was wrong.

One more possible trick up my sleeve before I admit defeat. My original speedometer worked but the odometer did not. I broke the needle shaft after installing a new odometer gear.

I have a replacement that does not work ...

Re: Oops

Well, I bought a used cluster on ebay. The seller told me that everything worked on the cluster including the odometer.

I received it the other day and when I pulled the cluster out of the box it was shipped in, I could hear what sounded like small pieces of plastic rattling around inside. I took ...

Re: 944 Automatic

I did hear that the automatic transmission was a pretty tough unit and not to be too concerned with the transmission itself. The problem I'm having at the moment is with leaking transmission lines. The one up front will occasionally drip on the exhaust manifold when at a stop and make a little smoke ...
