I'm about a month away from having my new Cayman GTS 4.0 delivered. However, whenever I need a stress relief, I go on to the Porsche Configurator and create "masterpieces". But, I'm made a few observations that I'm sure are well know, but have me scratching my head.
1. If you order the GTS in any trim, the "GTS Interior Package" price is actually split between two different line items. The interior colors/seats selection at the top comes with a multi-thousand $ price tag. But, then you're forced to select another GTS Interior package item, tacking on an addition several thousand $ line item. Why not just group this as one selection? I realize it makes it less palatable to see the cost for colored stitching and a little more mouse fur. But it seems silly how they have it listed. In all honesty, I went with all leather because it's less expensive, more durable, and looks just as nice.
2. Supply chain continues to impact builds, with options available one week disappearing the next. Some will be parsed out, with others totally unavailable. The Bose system was recently removed from many Premium Packages, but is still a stand-alone option. But, the PLDS options have been removed altogether. It makes you wonder if there will be a retrofit option later, or if some 2021-2023 models will be more desirable because of the scarcity of options.
3. The addition of options such as PDK or specific color choices vastly differ in cost based on the model selection. The difference in cost-of-goods and labor in each application is likely negligible. But it can be several thousand dollars for the same item in different models.
4. The technical geek side of me wants to help with the user experience on the site. The way options are listed and nested among the different selections is confusing. It takes a lot of time to determine which options can/can't be selected. In many cases, you paint yourself into a corner and the configurator errors out when selecting something that can't be added based on previous entries. It would be nice to see which wheel options are available with each selection instead of having to guess. Or which seat options allow for ventilation and which don't. When a previous package has been selected, greying out or disabling other packages that are unavailable. Some of it can get a bit complex, but I'm sure some workflow modeling could help with the design.
Any other things you guys have noticed while building out cars on the configurator?

Seems a lot of Porsche buyers are a bit OCD
My current beef with the confabulator is when you configure seat centers in deviated leather, it does not show.

It appears my order was early enough to include PDLS+ and Bose. But it seems they've pulled each from the premium package and have them available individually now. Keep in mind, the addition of these options seems to significantly delay production. My GTS was stuck in production for a month and a half.

Note that this new option goes from PDLS+ to PDLS. Removing the camera that provided “ High beam assistant”. Also as of yet we have no images to confirm the lights look exactly like the old LED with PDLS+.rowca wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 9:40 am Update: The 2023 Cayman GTS configurator now options the LED Headlights incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) for $660 USD.

Thank you. Good to know. I am waiting for a CGTS allocation with EUR delivery. I find myself playing with the configurator on a near daily basis. I much debate within the family I opted for the leather over the GTS package. If you have any words of wisdom - they would be appreciated.

I did the same thing for three reasons. First, full leather is actually less expensive than the GTS interior package. Porsche managed to split the cost of the GTS package to make it look more affordable. But, to keep the race tex and deviated stitching, you're paying well over $5k USD. Second, I wanted ventilated seats with the 18-ways and leather provides the option where it doesn't appear the GTS package does. Lastly, the GTS package has race tex on many of the wear surfaces. They're not nearly as durable and easy to clean as leather in my opinion.rowca wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:20 am Thank you. Good to know. I am waiting for a CGTS allocation with EUR delivery. I am fortunate because my configurator displays all the option changes to include interior. Thank you for confirming my thoughts on race-tex. Likewise, I opted for the 18-way and the ventilated seats. Still debating between the Aventurine or the new for '23 GTS Ice Grey. If I opt for the latter I'll combine with the Bordeaux interior.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. I'm really a big fan of Aventurine Green. I recently saw it in person and it looks very sharp. The grey/bordeaux combo looks good, but I feel it's been played out a bit. Nevertheless, it would still be very nice.
It's hard settling in and second-guessing your options.
