Did anyone else “down-level” to their current 718?

Including the Spyder, GT4, and GT4RS

I shouldn’t use down-level to describe this but some may see it as such. Has anyone else gone from a higher-spec Porsche to their current 718. I went from this:

I went from the 981 Spyder to the Cayman GTS 4.0 because I got tired of the top. I had a 987 Spyder so I knew what I was getting into. I bought it anyway, go figure. I thought the Cayman would give me the GT experience without the top hassle. Plus I really like AGM. What I found with the Cayman was the power was not very usable on the roads. I spent most of my time in 2nd gear with short bursts in third. What I wanted was a modern sports car more like my 987 Spyder. I was intrigued by the Boxster T. I really liked the idea so I jumped on a used 2021 with only 2800 miles last August. I’m about 3k miles additional and I am really enjoying it. Especially here in Northwest Arkansas on the twisty mountain roads.

I would love to hear stories from anyone else who took a similar path.
One note: I have also owned 911s; a 993, two 996s, and a 991.1. They don’t interest me.

The Targa was fast as hell, twin turbo of course with a power kit so GTS power. It was a special car, PTS in Gemini Blue, houndstooth inserts, but it was a PDK and I just found not rowing my own boring after awhile. I also prefer the linear power application of a NA engine. And as for rear-wheel steering, not a big fan. The Spyder ticks all the boxes- special looks, good torque through the power band (though 2nd is too long), fantastic mid-engine balance, the best manual I've ever experienced, and the bucket seats and PCCBs are worth the price of admission all day/every day. No regrets at all except I do miss smoking bozos in their chargers or mustangs who got a little big for their britches, once the turbos kicked in with AWD it was over

Wow, I don't know that I would call that a "down level"! More a lateral move.I really like the color of the Spyder! Just amazing!

I didn’t want to use down-level to describe it. I don’t think of it that way. I’m sure some would though.

In a way, as I always wanted a 911 ever since my '75 914 departed in '85. Went Porscheless until I dove a few 991.1's & .2's in 2018. They seemed like awesome GT cars, just not the sports car I envisioned. Then, an astute salesman coerced me into driving a Boxster (bought a CPO 718 BS in 2019)....and the rest....well, lets just say this happy camper no longer has dreams that include a 911.

When we sold the '17 BS in 2021 due to limp mode issues that surfaced at COTA, I thought seriously about replacing it with a new 911GTS Cabrio....for 2 seconds....until I realized the engine just wasn't in the right place for me. Thus, I ordered a 718 BGTS 4.0 and couldn't be more satisfied.
