My cars, a 2004 996 coupe and a 2012 Audi TTs are presently in storage in my garage for the winter. I expect to put them on the road in April, however the best I can do is drive them on the 400 series of highways here in Ontario, Canada where the speed limit was recently increased to 110Km/Hr. Fortunately, the traffic generally moves along between 120/130. My option is to track the 911 in the summer months which I have done. Enjoy your wheels as I expect to do in a couple of months.

Ha ha ha Michael, unfortunately the only time you can go over 130-140 on the 400 highways is either before 7 am or after 8 pm, but nothing compares the the gridlock on the DVP 🤮

Hey Bob,
Sounds like you have a little Porsche addiction :-) For what it's worth, I've got a 1988 Porsche 928 5-speed I'm ready to be sell. I love the car, but I need to let it go to make room in the garage for another vehicle. Don't worry, I'm still holding on to my 89 911 Targa and my 2015 Porsche GT3 :-)

Let me know if you're interested. I think a picture of my car is still on this forum in the 928 section.

Another new member after opening my copy of Pano last night.
I've been on Pelican for years.
I've had my 1981 911SC for 27 years. It's essentially stock, I have removed some unnecessary weight. I do have a long term goal of finding a core motor and building up a 3.2 SS w/ EFI. :)
I like to do my own work on all my cars.
My daily is a 2013 Mini Cooper JCW.
My son has a 1988 944 that was his first car and daily driver for several years. He keeps it in my garage and I get to do most of the maintenance.
I used to be pretty active with PCA, that waned for a while, I'm getting back in with that group.

Nice little forum you have here!

Michael here from NC, Salisbury/High Rock Lake area. Always been a Porsche lover, especially the 911's growing up. Bought my first one last year, '18 991.2 C4S, kept it for 9 months then sold and bought a '21 992 S 5 months ago. Have loved every minute of it and can't get enough!

Any local members around?

Looking forward to connecting with the good folks on here!

Hi All!

My name is Pamelyn Witteman, Ph.D. and I live in the Smoky Mountains, NC, near the Tail of the Dragon. I am a first-time Porsche owner of a 2021 718 Cayman. I love my Cayman and LOVE to drive it around the corners here in NC.

I am a Professor and work at home, so I enjoy the curvy roads here whenever I can. I have to get new tires soon, so I wonder if any of you have any advice on tires that are good for curves and will not wear too much. The factory P Zeros are not that great for what I drive on - curves and lots of them :)

I look forward to chatting with all of you!
Cheers!
Pam

Hi Pam. Welcome to Carpokes!

I'm to your east in the Nashville (TN) area. Congrats on your Cayman - fabulous cars that are as much fun to drive as any car could be (in my opinion!). I love everything about my GT4 - how it sounds, how it handles, how it feels. My radio is never on in that particular car simply because of the fantastic visceral experience it offers every time I drive it.

Regarding tires, I track my 718 quite a bit and go through tires quickly (4-sets last year). I had Pirelli's on another Porsche several years ago and did not like them - the handling was odd and they wore quickly. For the GT4, I run Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's (and sometimes Dunlop SportMaxx Race 2's) but I would not recommend them for regular driving use, most especially all-season driving of any kind. The MSPC2's and others of that nature are extremely dangerous in colder weather (45° ish is a wise lower limit) and they will also crack if too cold. (Michelin will not warrant MSPC2's if they are exposed in any way to temps in the 25° or lower range.)

All tires will wear, especially sports cars driven spiritedly. The performance compounds are soft so that you have great grip but the downside is the rubber left on the pavement!

Not sure which 718 model you have but Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is probably your best choice. Continental Extreme Contact Sport 2 or Goodyear Eagle F1's are also very good imo. One suggestion would be to stick to Porsche spec tires if possible, especially on a newer car like yours. Ask the Porsche dealer what they have and recommend and also ask them if they'll match the discounters' pricing. Can't hurt to ask.

Continue enjoying your 718!
