Here are the dimensions of the core (easy for me to measure as mine is not installed yet - doesn't look like I can post pictures of it):
H: 5 1/8"
D: 6"
L: 18"

michael wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 9:14 am Tom, much appreciated! I don't have any experience using 3D printing. Would gladly take you up on your offer to make me a copy for $20 or whatever you think is reasonable. Given you seem to be local in the bay area, I might even be able to drop by and pick them up.
Happy to print you a set. It did occur to me that I cut away from of the metal on the bottom side of my header panel a long time ago to make room for a front mount intercooler. If you have your panel off, maybe take a picture of it and post it so I can see if that area is going to hit...
Great! Will take the panel off on the weekend and post pictures.

Hey Michael,

Not sure if you're having an issue with posting pictures in general or if the problem is with a particular pic, but here is some help in a "how to" guide on Carpokes if needed. (It's a 'sticky' topic in the New Member Welcome sub-forum.)

viewtopic.php?t=410

In summary, just scroll down when you're composing a reply and look for the "Attachments" tab in the lower left. Click that and then click "Add" and navigate to where your pic is stored locally. (IE: the folder and file on your PC.) It will download and then insert it where you want it in your post. Click "Preview" to be sure it looks the way you prefer and then click "Submit" as you would normally. Let us know if any questions.

Tim, thanks for the help. Got it working. Here are the pictures of the SFR stage 1.5 IC.

Michael -- how long ago did you buy that? When Tim first started selling these, he was talking about casting end caps, but it seems like that plan never came to fruition....

Tom, I bought these about 4-5 months ago along with the 1.5" piping. Just haven't gotten around to installing them as I was hunting down various oil leaks. I still need to figure out a rich running condition under boost so I have a proper baseline before swapping IC and piping.

I also need to clean up the opening in end tanks where the pipes are welded on. Was a bit surprised to see that the openings didn't really match the pipe diameters.

Hmmm, interesting pictures.   Careful not to get metal shavings in the intercooler/motor.... On my 3 liter car, I'm not sure the flow is much of a limit. I long time ago I data logged intercoolers and remember concluding the stock intercooler doesn't benefit much from more flow unless you are making more power than a typical 951. However, the stock intercooler heats up very fast and takes a while to shed the heat, so bigger intercoolers like this allow for lower air intake temps after the very first boost run. (Less heat = more power, less knock, more happiness.) I had posted my data on a now defunct forum (951forums for anyone who remembers that) but it was crazy how much hotter the income air was with the stock intercooler after one or two full boost bursts.

I recently did a set of intercooler pipes for another Carpokean, and ended up comparing them to my SFR pipes. I discovered in that process that the joints inside were unfinished, much like your pictures. In my case, there was still ragged metal scraps around the holes that were drilled for the blow off and other small pipes -- no deburring at all before welding. Not knocking Tim and SFR, as he's a great welder and makes things others won't/can't. But the lesson is to inspect every part closely no matter how much you trust your machine shop, welder, etc.

Interesting. I have not seen data on the stock intercooler vs. larger units like this on the 951, but experimented with different ICs on a 996TT I owned a while back. I did see drastically lower intake temps with larger ICs there, but also flow helped as far as I could tell.
My main objective on the 951 is lowering the intake temp - any benefits from improved flow are of course welcome, but if you didn't see them on your 3 liter engine, I should probably not expect them on my 2.5.
Agree I have to be very careful about metal shavings when cleaning up these ICs.

You should use speed tape aka aluminum foil tape instead of duct tape. It'll fit a lot better and look more like racecar. B)
