@signde - If you can live with a smaller screen, look at the CRP919X (~$400 on Amazon). Users on another forum have reported that it has the same software and can do all the same stuff.

My full-size Pro v.4 came with 2 years of free updates. I will probably not pay for continuing that service, for as you guessed it only adds minor tweaks and support for more, newer models.

A PIWIS will do everything the X431 will do, and more. But the coding is all in the Engineering menu, and is in German. Not insuperable, but a pain none-the-less. When I was looking last year, a clone package of PIWIS3 was more than the large X431 I got. (PIWIS2 is cheaper, but I've heard its support for 718s is not complete.)

i think i can live with a small screen, it's not like i will be using it all the time.

these launch x431 devices don't vin lock do they? that's a popular trend with rosstech vag-com and durametric cables these days.

Nope. In fact, they will work on as many vehicles as you can connect to. For you, a side benefit is that it will work on your RS3, and at least be an OBDII reader for the R32.

It's worse than that. It's not even our politicians and regulations here in the USA that has prompted this stuff, you need to look at the German, Swiss and other EU regulations, which are now even stricter than ours.

Can I add only the tail lights (in addition to front DRLs) when DRLs are enabled?

I don’t care for turning on side markers, and I’m not interested in adding the gauge lights. I’d just like DRL to mean having some nice-looking indicators both front and rear.

Entirely possible this is covered by some of the earlier posts about gauge lights and a combination of enabling scandinavian DRLs and disabling NA side markers.

Hmm. I don't recall seeing anything like that, but I'll look next time I've got mine connected.

In my case, I added the what X431 translates as "markers" to DRLs. What I got was the taillights, license lights, side markers and gauges. (I found it odd that the front parking lights were not included.) The side markers can then be defeated, but it's an 'all-the-time" fix. No side markers even after dark...

Yes. No side marker, gauges or license lights. The parameter for this one is:

SYSTEM SELECTION> Front End Electronics > Coding Value--Exterior Lighting--Exterior Lighting: DDL with Position and tail light = Yes
{Default: No}

I'm new to this forum and just purchased a X431 from Amazon this afternoon.

Thanks for this thread! I'll revisit when the device arrives. Have some modifications I want to apply on my 2020.

Is there a setting to remember last state for the parking sensors on/off switch?
