I recently added a Soul Performance Valve Controller to override the PSE when I'm alone in the car. I love having the valves open to listen to that flat six and exhaust but didn't like the pumped in sound to the cabin. It created a lot of drone. The Soul Sound Delete kit is simply two rubber caps that replace part of the Sound Infuser. It makes a big difference in the GT4 cabin with valves fully open. A family member immediately noticed the difference this week while riding in the car.
Since I had pulled the rear carpet to swap air filters I just kept pulling trim to access the top of the engine to install the two rubber caps for the Sound Delete. The trim came off easily. I recommend moving your seats fully forward to pop off the plastic trim the seat belts pass through. That way you don't scratch your seats. The bolts for the access panel come off easy with a T30 bit. There are two bolts in the front corners (below the front tie downs) that have limited space to use a ratchet. I used a T30 bit and 1/4 closed end wrench to break them loose. Once loose they spin off by hand. In the pictures below you can see the Sound Infuser. The front of the car has a plastic ring you squeeze and the pipe comes off. The rear portion pulls off the diaphragm.
Next you cap off the Diaphragm and the entrance pipe to the cabin. The rear cap went on easy. The plastic fitting at the entrance of the cabin is larger fitting and took some work to get the rubber cap over it. I used a heat gun to make the rubber pliable and a dental tool to help guide the rubber over the side. After some stern words she finally went on.
I noticed the Diaphragm was able to move since the removed portion had the attach point to the metal frame on the engine. I used a zip tie to secure the Diaphragm. Keep it from bouncing around the engine bay.
The access plate goes back on and you start gently popping plastic trim in the reverse order you took it off. After that it was time for an oil change. Love working on this car. The Sound Delete is reversible too. Just save the part you took off.
Huge Thanks to Ed for the bolster protectors and Tom for the license plate mounts!!!
Love the enthusiasm for Pcars on this site.

Nice work. Love that you are willing to dig in there. I had that sound tube thing on my 991.2 Turbo S and hated it. All it seemed to do was create a heavy drone in the cabin at cruising speeds -- not really an engine sound, but more like a somethings-wrong-with-the-washing-machine sound. Hopefully that issue was unique to that car?
For what it's worth, our very own Track Nanny let's you open the PSE flaps at will, and also closes them as needed based on GPS location (e.g., near the sound booth at a track, in a gated community, etc.).

Thank you sir! I love working on this car. That sound tube really did cause distortion/drone with the new OAPs and valves open. She sounds so much better now with that pumped in sound eliminated. Thanks for the link. I'll definitely check the Track Nanny out. With so many people moving to Florida it wouldn't surprise me to see sound nannies start up at Sebring. I'll be at Sebring February 5th for the 48 hours of Sebring. No more beautiful sound than driving up and hearing all those flat sixes at full howl. I can't wait!!! Sebring is my favorite track.
My Father took this picture in 1963 or 1964 of the Abarth Porsche at Sebring under the MG Safety Fast Bridge.

Thanx for posting the photo of my Abarth serial #1016. This photo was taken at Sebring 1962.
I would love to have a digital copy for my historical files, thanx.

You are legend to have driven that car around Sebring. I wish I had been around to see the early days at Sebring Raceway. Thanks for clearing the year up. I was unsure of the exact date. I think my father used his old Leica to get the pic. The pic above was a quick iPhone snap of the photo I found in his collection after he passed.
I’ll hunt for the negative today. If I cannot locate it I’ll order a new scanner.
I’ll work on that for you.

Thanx, I hope you can find the negative. Let me know if I can help, I do have a professional scanner.
I am racing the Abarth next week at Rennsport. If you are attending stop by and say hello

Thanks for your analysis and observations regarding the rather phony pumped in sound along with the pics and tips for eliminating it. Even though capping it off is simple, getting to everything first can (and usually will) throw up the unexpected, so your how-to guide is very useful.Brianhk45 wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:15 am I recently added a Soul Performance Valve Controller to override the PSE when I'm alone in the car. Not sure why Porsche feels the need for artificial cabin sound in the first place - probably a few goofy focus groups involved somewhere along an oddly traveled path. Sound Symposer - what a silly name. Going to cap mine off soon.
100% concur with you regarding Ed's bolster protectors and Tom's fabulous license plate mounts. (A friend at PTC yesterday in his new GT4-RS probably will be a new customer of both items.)

Thank you sir for your kind words. Congrats to your friend on the GT4RS. That is such a beautiful car!
It was a lot of fun to work on my 4. I spend extra time just because I love marveling at the engineering and design of all mechanical parts. I could spend hours just admiring engine and suspension during oil changes. It's a disease I swear! LOL
