I ordered a carbon fiber plate frame from Titanium Car Parts that is very thin, I'm sure the bolts will be fine.

I have been researching adhesive mounts for a front license plate. Can anyone think of any reason why the rear mounts would not work for a front mounted plate? I have considered an option like Carbonio which mounts to a surface that is not front facing and utilizes brackets to attach to the adhesive mounting points which bolts the plate to but if I’m using adhesive, I don’t see why it can’t be mounted directly to the front face of a bumper (unless one intended to have a removable bracket - which I don't). If I no longer needed a front plate I could remove the adhesive mounting brackets with some dental floss and alcohol wipes.
Unless there are some issues I have not thought through, I would be game to buy a set of Tom's mounts and try them on the front of my 997.
How well does the adhesive stick to PPF? I wonder...

My concern about the front is the possibility of catching air under the plate, at speed, and having it tear the plate/mounts off. The 3M molding tape is crazy strong, but if air can make a 2000 lb. Cessna fly at 70mph, I'd have to think it could pull off a little license plate. Now I'm sure it's possible to position a plate to avoid that, but that would depend on the car etc. Our rear mounts also require a flat surface on the same plane at all 4 corners. Does the 997 even have that in front? Would a vinyl plate work for you?

That said, the molding tape sticks to ppf like crazy. So much so that you need to be careful not to pull up the ppf if you ever try to remove it.

I think you are right though Tom. Having another look at it this morning, I see several problems with using the brackets to mount a front plate on my car. As you mentioned, there is not a flat surface both in the vertical plane as well as the horizontal. I was hoping that the curve of the horizontal part of the bumper was "flat" enough to allow for the tape thickness of the 3M to conform to the shape but it looks like the 3M tape is only about 1mm thick. Second, the vertical plane of the bumper looks to be a little flatter than the horizontal but the part that is relatively flat is not that high which means I could only mount the top part of the plate with the bottom holes hanging below that surface.

In the pictures of my car, that small tab just under the leading edge of the bumper marks the centre of the bumper. Below that surface the bumper drops away again into the black grill cover. Most of the drill-less mounts that I have come across tend of use the under facing top part of the black grill cover to attach the adhesive mount. Then brackets are attached to that in order to mount a plate on a vertical plane. The most promising part I've found that you can still buy is sold by carbonio.ca. I might just go for that option and give it a try.
There was another I came across called Painless Products which mounts a two hole plastic bracket adhered to the front part of the pumper. They have a couple YouTube videos and a Facebook page, but I can't find the product on their website to order it.

Just to say I bought the plate mounts for my 992 and they are stellar. I was happily surprised at the quality, the level of detail is high..the groves, straight-lined adhesion strips, and the nifty workmarks to tell you the correct direction..super happy with the purchase.

I had someone special order a set of 992/991/981 mounts in white. I have a few sets left over now in case anyone is interested. Charging $75 plus shipping for the white ones to recover the costs of such a small run.... Step right up. :)

Just installed my mounts on my 991 GT3 - thanks Tom!! Hardest part was peeling the backing off the 3m tape :)

There are the ABS versions and the 3D printed versions
Does anyone know if there are substantial differences between the 2 versions as to the way they fit? Is one softer material?
Thanks

Not sure how I missed this question, but for the record, we are only selling the machined ABS mounts now. I originally 3D-printed the mounts (in ABS) for my own car, and then started selling them when others asked for them. However, after a while, my little 3D printer could not keep up, so I opted to have the mounts milled out of solid ABS. The new versions look less home-printed (if you will), but I don't think there is any functional/practical difference really.

In the meantime, due to production cost increases, I had to raise the price on the mounts by $5. Effective today, Aug. 10, 2022, as listed in the Carpokes "store," the new prices are:

718 Mounts are $55, plus $8.25 shipping inside the US, in black or white
992/991/981 Mounts are $60, plus $8.25 shipping in the US, in black or white

Shipping and handling to Canada is $35 (USPS Priority)
Shipping and handling elsewhere is is billed at actual cost plus $5 (USPS Priority)
Most US orders ship out within 2 or 3 business days of payment
International orders require a trip to Post Office and Customs Forms, so may take longer

I know this is an old thread but are these 992 mounts still available? I am about to take delivery of my new car and would rather not drill in to the bumper.
Thanks
