The cool part is that you can switch colors easier than switching watch bands! Chalk for summer, Black for winter? I just hope the bezel cover will snap into the tiny gap between the 718 bezel and cover. I noticed that I can get about a 1/16 inch gap if I push the chrono down with a little pressure. I don’t know how deep the gap is. If you guys want, I’ll be the beta tester when you’re ready. @Bob Z have you tried a cover on your car yet?Bob Z wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:26 pm Most of the bezels I have seen are Silver, which matches a lot of the other interior trim pieces. In your case though, a Black bezel would look nice but I think Tom has a pic of a Chaulk bezel for a 992 you can see.

I have not done a cover yet for the 718. As my first step, I'm trying to replicate the factory part that Bob removed from his gauge. If successful, that will allow me to integrate in the glare hood he's after, in a permanent replacement for his bezel. I don't 'think' the replacement bezel approach will be ideal for bezels in bright colors, because the base part of the gauge is black, and I "think" a painted version of the factory bezel will look half finished. I could be wrong on that, but we'll see. At any rate, once we get the replica part done, I can then start on a cover like the one I did on the 992. I have a plan for a cover that does not need to slide over the top. When I get to that, I'm thinking BzzzBom can be the beta tester and help get it fine-tuned. Bob will be the factory replica with hood tester...BzzzBom wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:41 pmThe cool part is that you can switch colors easier than switching watch bands! The GTS we ordered is Gentian Blue with Racing Yellow deviated stitching and gauge faces. Can't wait to see pics of a 718 with colored gauge faces and matching bezels. Depending on how they look, I may just get bezels in both colors...maybe even Black too.Tom wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:31 pmIf we get the cover working like the 992 version -- where it can just pop on and off easily -- you won't need to choose. Keep a variety of colors on hand to suit your mood that day. You've earned all the colors you might want.BzzzBom wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:23 pm I showed some photos to the folks at my Porsche dealership. Most thought that the bezel covers were OEM bezel options. As far as I know the only OEM bezel colors are black or chrome and you can’t decide which color you want. They are car specific.
What’s particularly cool about the covers is that you can paint them to match the exterior paint, interior leather, Race-Tex or the deviated stitching / seat belts / seat deviated leather!
I have black leather with deviated stitching and seat belts in Chalk. What do you all think, bezel cover in Chalk or black?I normally keep the red one on my car, but have other colors for special occasions.
I went to the paint shop today and got spray paint in Racing Yellow, Gentian Blue and Bordeaux. The Bordeaux was a dead ringer on the sample card they had, but looks a tad redder when sprayed in high gloss. Will post some shots of the new colors when they are dry enough to handle tomorrow.
Great Project, thank you!

If this works for 991.1 I’d be interested in yellow.

Thanks! Keep your eyes on Carpokes -- I'll post a version with a glare hood fairly soon!vRAE2009 wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 7:30 am This is a very cool project and while I can't wait to see the painted bezels, it's the hood version that has me really interested! Great work!

Would you mind posting a picture of your Sports Chrono gauge? I suspect, but don't know for sure, that it may be like the 718.....

I've been working to expand color choices. Here are the 992 versions in Bordeaux, Racing Yellow, and Gentian. I think the satin finish works for the Bordeaux, but am thinking Gentian needs to be high gloss to look right.... This is color matched based on the paint code for Gentian....Treemagnet wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 3:23 pm
