At least one of our Musik-Stadt members attended this year's Tail of the Dragon Rennsport Porsche Fall Rally a few weeks ago. He posted a very good brief summary in our club's November newsletter that can be read here on page 26-27
Ralf, the article's author who grew up 50 miles from the Nürburgring had endless times on track there but was, nevertheless, quite impressed with the Dragon.
Here's a video of part of last year's 2022 Rennsport Dragon Rally if interested in seeing what the road and the drive are all about. In this video, it gets more challenging as the drive progresses. Pretty cool !!

I attended the October 2023 RDR and it was quite possibly the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a car. In the video shared in the first post, the road they're on is Voldemort (the road that shall not be named). They did not include that road officially on the schedule for the Fall 2023 event because too many cars have been totaled while driving it. I heard that two 911s were lost during the fall event when they decided to run Voldemort on their own.
If you have a chance, I highly recommend signing up for an upcoming RDR event at https://www.rennsportdragonrally.com/. The place hosting the event fills up fast and hotel rooms in the area are scarce. Book your spot early as Josh puts on a FANTASTIC event.
Thank you for the reply and additional info Nike 4000! It's helpful to know more about the event from personal experiences and your comments certainly add to the intrigue.
Regarding the Voldemort portion, as I was watching the video I quickly realized how tricky it was and wondered how many wrecked cars there are each year. Your comment addressed that, unfortunately for a couple of 911 owners. Bad motorcycle accidents are a part of the history too. It's a long way to any hospital.

Here's a video from the October 2023 event, my Cayman can be found in a few shots.
You're 100% right about the high number of accidents and fatalities on the Tail of the Dragon and surrounding roads. Josh Vandergriff with 129 Hub, who founded the Rennsport Dragon Rally, gives very impassioned speeches about staying between the "mustard & the mayo" in every driver's meeting. He stresses how dangerous the roads are, especially for our friends who are on 2 wheels.
For some additional info - there are different driving group options to pick from. Everything from "Extreme" (aka Bat Sh!t Crazy) down to "Cruising." None of those groups are suited for people looking to enjoy the leaves changing colors, they're all about driving. The focus is on having a safe and enjoyable time while driving our amazing cars. Every morning was like a whole new car show walking around the staging areas.
One thing I failed to mention, everyone is extremely friendly! It's like a Carpokes meet-up. This was my first time attending and I made some life-long friends. Such a fantastic group of enthusiasts who were welcoming to everyone and were willing to offer support to anyone who might need it.
Quick story - on one of the days, I forget which, we were driving up the Cherohala Skyway and as we're passing one of the viewing areas, I see a group of 5 or 6 people jumping up and down cheering as our group of about 20 Porsches flashed by. It was so cool to see how excited people were as we passed by. As Porsche owners, we're spoiled by experiencing our amazing vehicles every day and forget how unique and fun it is to see these wonderful cars out and about in force.
Finally back home and had a minute to watch the video of the Fall 2023 Rennsport Dragon Rally that you shared with us.
Wow! Thank you for posting that! It certainly gives a good feel and a taste of what The Dragon is all about. The drone overheads are fantastic too!
Your comments about Josh Vandergriff and his rally's professionalism, the camaraderie, the briefings, the 'Carpokes-like' atmosphere, and more were welcome music to my ears. And all the Porsches there - so very cooI. I need to break away from the track, chores, excuses, and whatever else might interfere and give this event a whirl next year.
Also, a shout out to the rest of 'The Pokes' family that if any interest in this kind of driving, you owe it to yourself to watch the brief 4-minute, professionally produced video that Nike4000 shared.
I'm going to give this thread a bump in a day or so. Gotta get it front and center!

As someone who is located in Middle Tennessee, you owe it to yourself to sign up for a future RDR! You'll have a fantastic time. I'm sure the June event is just as outstanding as this October was. April is for air-cooled cars only, so unless your stable of Porsches has changed, it doesn't look like you qualify!

If anyone is seriously considering attending RDR next fall, be sure to book early as it fills up fast. You can book at https://www.rennsportdragonrally.com/ for any of the 2024 events.
You'll also want to try and reserve a room at the Fontana Village Resort & Marina. Plan to arrive on Thursday evening to get checked in to the hotel and the event. Many people depart on Sunday, but I stayed until Monday & had a fantastic time with the much smaller group of cars that tore through the area all day Sunday.
Happy to answer any questions I can. It was so much fun, I can't wait for next year's event. Way better than HPDEs in my opinion.

Hello fam just wanted to update this thread as the upcoming Rennsport Dragon Rally registration has been open and will fill up quickly. If you've never attended the RDR this is absolutely an events that you want to put on your bucket list! This is not your typical Rally as this is strictly for Porsches only! All makes and models will be out there.
I will be out there for the June event as I am part of the MEDIA TEAM!
