I've had other cars I fondly remember such as a 1929 Model A Roadster with 389 Pontiac, a 1957 Chevy Bel Aire 2dr-hardtop, a 1964 Pontiac GTO, and a 1934 Plymouth Coupe street rod, I still miss the '40 and '65.
I now have a 2016 Cayman GT4, a 2002 Corvette Z06, and a 1969 Porsche 911T track car.

This post makes me realize once a “car guy/gal” always a car guy/gal! I guess we’re born that way. I wonder if there is a gene for it

It was fall 1972. Start of my junior year of high school & my first car. Purchased a 1969 Dodge Super Bee for $1,650. Worked every weekend & other side jobs to buy it. 383 with bucket seats & a 4spd. manual. Loved that car. Took it to college… Bought a one way ticket to Maui after my sophomore year 1976 asking my parents to store the car for me in anticipation of my eventual return. After 10 months I was out of money & reluctantly asked my parents to sell the car & forward me the money. Sold promptly for $900. Sure miss that car!
During my junior and senior years of college at SUNY Oneonta, I had a 1966 Pontiac GTO. It was barrier blue with the 389 cu in tri-power (three two-barrel carburetors) for 360 hp. Hurst four speed. Reverb radio. Eight track tape player. Red line tires and dual red pinstripes. Exceeded 150 mph once in fourth gear and above the tachometer’s limit a couple hundred rpm’s.
Subaru Legacy GT Limited. Bought it from a friend in VA. Royal Blue. Two sets of rims: Stock for snow tires & gold Ronals for Continental DW tires. Fabulous car. He had bought it new when he lived here in The Twin Cities and had the dealer swap out the trunk lid and associated springs with a plain Legacy because he id not want the basket-handle. Only the intercooler scoop was an obvious clue as to what lay beneath. The car had the winter package, which included LSD in the rear differential. I asked my friend if it had Traction Control. He replied "Your traction-control is your right foot."
My daughter lived in a tiny studio near Dupont Circle then. I rolled the Ronals into our hotel room.
One day, my wife and daughter took the bus to Georgetown. I drove to Dulles to see the part of the Air & Space Museum I had not seen on other trips. It was winter, and the roads were damp in DC. The Blizzaks were half-worn and had been stacked up in the garage for years. I could easily provoke a controllable drift on freeway ramps.
For the rest of that winter, my wife was frequently asking if it was spring yet so she could be rid of those tires she hated so much. The Continentals were in fine shape. The Blizzaks got recycled and were replaced by General snow/ice tires.
My wife had problems with her right shoulder and the orthopedist told her to stop driving stick. She went into mourning since she had always driven manual cars. She even hated that our Suburbans were automatics. I sold the Subie to a friend, and now his wife drives a great car.
