Also starting in 1975:
1967 Shelby GT500-this was a well used driver that I paid $6500 from Towne Ford in Redwood City. A drunk driver rear ended it on Hwy 280 in October 1976. Even the CHP officer was angry at the loss of this one.
1976 Datsun 280Z bought new with the insurance money and a bit more ($7400) from Stevens Creek Datsun (Nissan). I went wild with modifications but the car sat while I went to college in Iowa (Grinnell).
1973 Porsche 914 race car shell. A buddy and I thought we should go racing, unaware that building up you own is the most expensive way to go about this. Ended up abandoning the project, but I got introduced to a wonderful shop owned by Harald VonK and Mark Shattuck-Racetech. I helped out on their one of a kind 914-6 GT Group 5/IMSA turbo.
1986 purchased my 1970 911S. It was somebody's autocross car and no longer had the S engine in it. I have had the body and engine rebuilt and modified. I plan to leave this car to my son.
I daily a 2012 Subaru Forester which is kind of a swiss army knife of cars. I am looking to scratch the Porsche itch one more time with either a 996 GT3 or 718 Cayman GT4. It will be my first six figure car.

There are 2 that got away. I tried to get my dad to buy a Ferrari 250 GTO that was advertised in Road & Track in '69 for $8500. He thought I was crazy. The other was a McLaren F1 for $600K....... I thought it was too much! I offered $400 and he didn't bite.

Look's like a pretty solid list to me and I like your wife's taste as it reminds me of my wife, who currently has a Macan S, but over the years has had a Turbo 5 speed PT Cruiser ( modified ) RX-7, Mazdaspeed Miata, Chrysler 300 SRT8, etc. If we are at a stop light and she is driving I have to remind her we might be in a heavily patrolled area , ha.

Yeah I've already warned her that pretty soon, she won't be able to get a V8 growl in any "new" sporty SUV. That's one of the main reasons for trading in the 2018 on the 2024 since time is running out. I'd love to get her in a Cayenne but with all the kids activities, we use the 3rd row seats too often to move to an SUV without them.

I sold Stellantis products for decades ( primarily focusing on Vipers ) so I understand and still enjoy many of their products. I pull my race trailer with a 2022 Ram Laramie Crew Cab and it is the 6th Ram I have owned to drag around a variety of race/time trial/ autocross vehicles over the years!
