Death Valley! I know what Zabriskie Point looks like from the 1970 movie of the same name that had some scenes shot there. A barren moonscape. I've been through Death Valley and that area but it was as a young child in the 50s, so not a lot of visual recall. I remember it was summer and it was hot. We went across in a light baby blue '57 Chevy 6-cylinder three-on-the-column 4-dr sedan, about as basic as a car could be. No A/C but no one cared back then. Quite fascinating and fun as I recall, hanging out the back window.
The movie, directed by a great film director Michael Antonioni, was, nonetheless, a horrid film in every respect. (It's included in a old film book listing the 50 worst films ever made.) The young ne'er-do-well who had never acted before was apparently quite in character. Three years later he went to prison for attempted bank robbery and died in prison two years after that at the age of 27.
