Looking for some transmission help. I don’t have 5th or reverse. It’s not the linkage I tested right off the selector shaft. Reverse just doesn’t make it into gear and can hear the gear trying to engage and the reverse lights are on. Fifth clicks in but nothing. Previous owner swapped 5th gears. I resealed the trans. I had the selector shaft out to reseal, it’s straight up in neutral like it’s supposed to be, but could I have put it in trans while it was in gear and not neutral so it’s off.

Ok I figured it out. 5th gear stack replaced and working perfectly.

Did you actually replace anything or did you just need to re-assemble it?

I replaced the complete 5th gear stack and synchro located in the tail of the trans.
