Only thing I can think of is that you'd be missing the side panel that normally holds the LED circuit board, which also closes off a little gap in the dash that's created when you remove the original clear front. However, I've got my eye on some backlit gauges which look like they'll work quite well, but if they don't I'll have to switch back to front lit.
The pictures I have to hand aren't useful in the slightest, they're just the ones I took whilst doing the odometer gear fix earlier in the year, but I'll take some more at the weekend to show exactly what you're looking for
