Hey All,

I've seen some of these floating around, but none were as polished as I'd like to take it. This version:
  • Accepts a 4.5MM thick filter media
  • Has a snap-in retainer to keep the media in place
  • Has a Porsche script
  • Has a reinforced top clip so you can print laying flat without worrying about breaking due to z-layer adhesion
  • Has 4 holes on the face for heat set inserts
  • Has a "gasket channel" on the face for future ducting, if desired
I bought some 4.5MM activated carbon (I know, it's not really...) filter fabric off amazon that will make 20 or so of these for 15$, so I have lots of replacement media for the future.

My thought was I could eventually build some sort of duct up towards the cowl to grab truly fresh air instead of the hot, oily air under the hood. I might try to make some sort of replacement to clean that whole area up...eventually. I'm also thinking of integrating a bracket that can hold readily available, cheap, Doorman vacuum actuators for when the expensive Porsche ones fail.

Prints great on my Bambulab X1C. The thin parts of the Porsche script are delicate, but come out looking OK. I printed in Matte PLA, which should be just fine for this application, but maybe I'll print a set in some PA6-CF in the future.

I don't have pics on this computer of them installed on my car, but maybe I'll snap some tomorrow and upload.

Enjoy!

Wow! very cool. I will print them in PC-PBT and report back how they turned out.

I love this and it looks factory. Do you know if it fits the 968? I’m willing to test it out for you if you have a spare to send me :D

This looks great I printed one to test fit in PLA (ASA ran out) and took it to my shop but left it next to a halogen light and melted it! Reprint time!

Do you have a link of what material you used?

I would not use normal PLA for anything on a car. I tried when I first started printing, and it will warp and droop on any mildly hot day pretty much anywhere on/in in the car. ABS does well as long as it's not near headers or other heat sources. I just got a spool of PPA-CF to experiment with. Might try it on this part. It's good to 440F and uber strong, or so say the specs...

I've had the PLA test ones on my car for a month or so now, in PLA, no issues.

Car is seeing 0*-10* (celsius...) ambient temps and they're doing just fine for now. I'll probably leave them in the car through the summer to see if they break down, but my guess is they'll hold up just fine in this application... If they break I'll print in PA6-CF or PA6-GF.

I use mostly bambulab filaments, except for the 85A TPU I print in.

It's not so much about breaking as it is about warping on hot days.

Yeah, I know. I think since it's clipped to the face of the inlet top and bottom and a mesh in the middle even when it reaches its HDT it'll be fine, but I'm here for the science!

I'm jaded about PLA in cars after all my early parts melted like the wicked witch, but I hear you on it kind of being trapped in its own mold. Far be it from me to stand in the way of science. :P Check back on Labor Day and let us know how it held up!

These look great. Much slicker than whats currently out there. Look very stock. Will try these out in a CF filament. Thanks for sharing
