Not much action this week, I have a track day coming up Saturday the 4th. Today I ordered a set of adjustable front control arms from Tarett, the Cup Series with rubber bushings. I went back and fourth for months on what direction to go. Mono ball vs rubber, GT3 style vs turnbuckle, Rennline vs Tarett, looking for something used vs new, I even considered the offset monoballs for my stock control arms. Ultimately I like that Tarett is a tested on track solution that has the bigger ball joint and a higher durometer rubber bushing.

A year ago I installed H&R VHT springs on my stock PASM struts. The rear was always a bit low for my taste and is not a threaded body so not as easily height adjustable where the fronts have threaded spring perches like a traditional coil overs. I have installed two different versions of rubber spring packers to raise the rear, the current version seems to limit spring compression and is acting like a higher spring rate. I think in two weeks when I have the front apart for the new control arms I will make a spacer and install it under the rear spring and spring perch. The next planned track days is not till mid February so I have time to get this sorted out.

Over the last couple weeks I have installed Tarett front control arms. Used shims and the offset tension arm hole to attempt to balance my track with, camber and caster. I still have the camber plates up top but for now the adjustment is in the middle of the slot range.

I have an ongoing battle with leaking CV boots. I believe the core issue is the heat generated from track use however I recently realized they are also being roasted by the aftermarket over axle pipes and the fact that the heat insulation they have is not sufficient. I have fashioned a home brew heat shield for now however after my last track day the driver side outer finally split and I had to address it further. Long term the OAP manufacturer is working on a solution so I will keep my home brew solution for now.

Axles out and new boots and cups all the way around. New grease, c-clips, CV bolts, axle nuts etc. I have taken all I have learned with high temp RTV and good CV clamps. Just got them back in the car tonight.

While the rear was apart I removed the rear struts and fashioned a spacer to attempt to raise the rear 3/8' or so. The H&R VTF sport springs came out a touch low in the rear for my tastes as I want that nose down attach stance. The spacer really worked out well from an install perspective but the real test is when it is on the ground later this week.

When I was pulling out the right side axle I was not being super careful and broke the transaxle temperature sensor. It is near the bottom of the sump so may as well change the gear oil. This time I went with Fuchs Titan Sintopoid 75W-90 Gear Oil. A year ago I changed it for Motul 300, that was good too but wanted to try another flavor. Also since i was changing oil and all the undertrays are off anyway I did another engine oil change. Used the deal from autozone where if you buy 5 you get a large discount and a filter. I do that deal twice, I get a filter for other cars. I used an OEM oil filter.

Still need to reinstall the brake calipers and all of the undertrays. May as well swap on the street wheels, bleed the brakes etc. Then I will work on the alignment. I will see how close I got it and possibly make some adjustments to make sure I like it. Then off to the alignment shop for fine tweaking. Next track weekend is coming up!

A few weeks ago I was at the gas station and went inside while the gas was pumping. For several reasons I was distracted and pulled out of the parking spot while the gas spout was still in the gas filler. I broke the gas door filler hinge. Thankfully it is actually easy to replace, simply remove the fender liner and swap out the assembly. Porsche calls it a gas pocket, it is the assembly under the gas flap door that contains the hings, holds the lock, surrounds the gas spout etc. The painted cover was not damaged and snaps on to the replacement flap.

I am sure there is more that that is the highlights. Will add some images from my phone after dinner.

Excellent info and feedback Jeremy. Thank you!

As we've discussed, I'm having the same heat issues with the GT4. A big downside for me is that Porsche does not furnish the outer CV boots for the rear axles. Want new boots? Buy the entire 718 GT4 specific axle assys at roughly $1,535 each. Rather pricey for just a boot and I need two. Over $3k for a set. Unbelievable. Need an oil change? Sorry, you have to buy the whole motor. Lol.

GKN is the manufacturer of the boots but they have nothing listed showing the boots at their website. Nick is attempting to contact them to see what we can dig up. Interestingly, the inner boots are available as stand alone parts but not the outer ones. How silly.

Meanwhile, the aftermarket OAPs are being shipped to the orig heat coating facility in Oklahoma City to have the coating completely removed via special blasting process after which they'll be shipped to the OAP manufacturer for them to apply their new heat shielding product which they've tested and say is greatly superior.

I may still wrap them with one of DEI's (Design Engineering, Inc) excellent wraps if it is doable and compatible with the new heat shield process. I was told that there was no need to worry about corrosion from wrap due to the use of 404L SS for their OAPs and the fact that all is back purged and TIG welded with no poorly welded seams. But, I haven't asked if their new heat shielding process is compatible with wrap. Will ask next week.

We're also attempting to get the rear axle cooling ducts from Porsche Motorsports to get increased air and cooling to the rear area.

Lots to figure out before track season which will be here before I know it. Anyway, it will be several weeks before I have a more complete picture but I'll let you know what I find out and how it all goes.

Tim,
Regarding the CV boots they are all the same size, and yes they are available separately,97033229300. The Inner can be purchased on their own or as a kit with the cup and already clamped. I ended up using the kit on the inners, seemed like the right thing to do. The outer "Cups" are really attached to the stub shaft and did not look easy to replace.

Since this image I have added one additional piece of heat insulation wrap around the three bolt flange as that entire area is close to the brake lines, CV boots etc.

After my recent changes to my front end I needed another alignment. My new alignment numbers are the following

Camber: 3.0 deg F/ 2.5 deg Rear
Toe: 0.03 deg out F/ 0.15 deg in Rear

I knew the camber limit of the GTS rear is higher than the GT4 before you need toe links but was not sure where it was. We now know. Next time I will add rear toe links and get the rear camber closer to 3.0.

I have rear toe links installed and a GT3 A arm in a box with some shims and.............oh, yeah, I don't live in Arizona like J-Dub so my work has been slightly curtailed by continuing accumulations of Snow.........aargh. Nice numbers and I am hoping I can get something close to that!

As I mentioned in a previous post regarding GT4s, Porsche lists the inner boots as being available but not the outers - axle assys only. Lol.

However, based on your very helpful advice ( :D  ) and some sleuthing by Nick, he too determined that the part numbers for the inner and outer boots were indeed exactly the same. Yes! He's figured out how to best go about replacing the "non-replaceable" outers. We're in business. Thanks Jeremy!!

Meanwhile, still waiting on the OAP situation to be resolved as well as procuring the Porsche Motorsports rear axle cooling ducts.

Will post more when I have more info/progress.

Glad the boots worked out for you. My home brew OAP heat shield solution is still working for the time being, I actually added more since the first picture I sent. I have now even covered the three bolt flange as that is where the rear brake soft lines get close. Two days at Spring Mountain outside of Las vegas this weekend, we will be on the Charleston Peak course.

Today I purchased the rear anti-sway bar from a 2024 GT4RS that was wrecked in the front end. The stock GTS sway bars have only one hole where as the GT4 and GT4RS bars have three holes for adjustment. As you know one great benefit of sway bars to adjust the front to back cornering stability. I like the idea of being able to make those adjustments. Later this week I will do some measurements and maybe put it on. I am not sure if I want o make that many changes at once or not.

I'm such a slacker. All I've been doing is driving back and forth between the house that's being remodeled, to the condo we're staying at for the time being. Weather has cooperated and the top is mostly down. Little pleasures....

That kind of slacking is encouraged (and fun).
