James here, 27, from London.

Proud new owner of this 1983 944 which I picked up from Northern Ireland and road tripped home. Before that it hadn't really been driven since 2003 but it somehow made it pretty much without missing a beat. As a former kart racer and huge Top Gear fan its a total dream to have a car like this

Plenty to do on the car (full respary will be needed at some point) but currently I'm embarking on the planning of replacing the timing/balance belts, water pump, and oil seals (belts last done in 1997...). Seems like a big job to do as my first proper mechanicing but also lothed to pay the 1.5-2k I have been quoted for the work so in a bit of a bind. Any advice greatly appreciated, would hate to have to sell!!
Welcome Jahlee!
You will find positive and friendly advice here in the land of CARPOKES!
Be sure to read the transaxle postings as there is a lot of information there and more than one or two members who are getting into taking care of their own cars.
Don't forget to look into the internet/youtube on 944 information as there are numerous resources and how-to videos there. Something you should check out if you haven't heard of it is Clarks Garage. (https://www.clarks-garage.com/) The originator of the sight has passed but the information has been archived/preserved and is a great source of information and general service procedures.
Welcome to CARPOKES!

Hello all,

Nedjeljko here, 20, from Canada.

New owner of a 1984 944 NA that I'm currently fixing up to have as a summer car. Lots done and lots more to do (currently attempting belts/water pump/front seals) and enjoying the process.

WELCOME!
Nice to see another 944 owner. The 944 group is growing and there are people from first timers to multiple vehicle owners and some with racing experience in the Transaxle postings. There are also father-son teams doing a joint project of restoration. There is also a lot of 3D printer posting for 944 so be sure to check that area as well.
Glad you joined the group!

Hi Bob! That is an INCREDIBLE PCA membership tenure! 45-years. Wow! Welcome to Carpokes!

Now that you've made your first post you should be good to go. Explore the site (there's lots here), adding posts to existing threads or creating your own new one. If you have questions, just ask.

Carpokes is a very, very friendly picture-posting site with no need for a 3rd party photo site to add your pics. (We love lots of photos.) Here is Tom's handy guide for posting pics:

Welcome Bob and Ned and it appears you figured out how to post, Bob! blueline needs to change his name to Mr. Helpful and he always steps forward to help new members , especially those of us ( like myself ) that are a bit computer illiterate.
Ned, you found the right place for 944 info as there are plenty of older Porsche owners here who have owned 944s.

New to THIS space....and hoping it will be as fun and friendly as the 'old days' of 356 Reg and 912 Reg forums.....I am also sort of 'new' to the water world that Porsche now resides in. I got my 1st Porsche in 1970, and currently have #35..but I am NOT a 'flipper', just a nut !!!! 33 have been air cooled,,,356 - 912 - 914 - 911. I just sold my 987, (#34) because my beloved found it to be too 'cramped' and wouldn't go on drives....SO...I bought the most open 'greenhouse' that Porsche has EVER built....the 993-996-997 TARGA... Mine is an '02 996.2 Targa in Carrera WHITE over Natural Brown. About 76K miles, 6 speed, etc. Very well kept/cared for... I am a long time PCA Member, and, fortunate to live close enough to the Monterey Car Week to attend every west coast Werks Reunion. I also have a Convertible D sitting next to the Targa....sort of a 'before and after' setup. LOVE them both (but I confess, the 356 is SO easy to work on, and the Targa is...well, sort of intimidating ) I'm in the Redwood Region of PCA, plus, 356 and 912 Registries.
Saw my 1st Porsche, in 1962, at age 11, whilst riding with Dad in his VW, in Tucson, AZ.
Love at 1st sight.... :shifty: Now, 35 Porsches later.....what can I say.
