new project
Hi Chris.
Any reason you are not going the twin scroll route? Not sure why more people have not tried it yet? I would like to go this route when I get closer to that point. I will probably use Unobtanium welding for the finished design as they are 20 minutes from my house.

Are you tin king that you will run two crossover pipes with 1-4 and 3-3 cylinders with a dedicated connection to either twin scroll port? That’s a lot of work and difficult fitment for a questionable amount of gain. I am not a believer in big benefits of a twin scroll especially when there is a long travel distance from exhaust port to turbo.gruhsy wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:42 pmHi Chris.

Probably based on past experience. I really dislike the old school tail light panels. They were cheaply made and fit badly.944m3 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 11:31 am Center panel light would not be my personal preference. That being said, it’s always difficult to judge and things sometimes grow on you. In the end I could be like, why did I ever doubt this lol
But this look pretty nice to me!

Yes 1&4 and 2&3chris white wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:49 pmAre you tin king that you will run two crossover pipes with 1-4 and 3-3 cylinders with a dedicated connection to either twin scroll port? I’m curious to experiment and see what the results are.
Doing a bunch of Motorcycle spending and work on my FJ cruiser so it’s a bit down the road.
I does look a lot sleeker than the original. I guess you have to decide if that's the way you want to go with the overall looks of the car. I think it makes it look a little too much like a Nissan, especially with the centre Porsche script / strip. Perhaps with that removed it might look more like our cars?chris white wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 11:04 am We are in discussions with the fellow that makes the bumper shown a couple of posts earlier. Out of all the concepts I have seen this (IMHO) is the best take on a more modern 944 look with out going too far. The original designer made it as a bolt on to minimize changes to the existing body and paint. Initially I really didn’t like the seam at the rear quarter and then I realized it was reminiscent of the 968 bumper. But since we are doing full resprays we can permanently mount it and make it seamless. The other issue is the clever way he did the taillights. The new bumper cover goes over the stock lower half of the lights. Looks good at a distance but not the way I would like close up. So we are going to get them made with a return to the stock rear metal work at that area. Custom modern LED tail lights to be designed and fabricated. Still thinking about the center panel. With modern 3D printers the sky is the limit.
I favor keeping some of the original design language for the tail lights, 3 segment display.
Any thoughts on the center panel?
I think the benefits of the twin scroll have been proven. Although perhaps not on one of our cars definitively. IIRC Rod (RP968) might have some back to back dynos with single vs twin on his old street 944t? But yes, quite a bit more pipework to achieve.
I don't see the logic in modernising the rear of a 944, when the front end would stay pretty much original. It would perhaps work on a 968, if the front end was modified with a 993 headlamp/wing conversion.chris white wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:53 pm

It comes down to ‘taste’ which is not logic based! The front end of the 944 has held up quite nicely to age and different trends. Maybe a little splitter but not much else. I always felt the tail alights were the weak point in the 944. Everything else followed and then they stuck some lights that looked like they stole it off a Volvo. The build quality of the lenes was not Porsche level. And once yours have filled up with water its gets hard to love them anymore!!blade7 wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 4:37 amI don't see the logic in modernising the rear of a 944, when the front end would stay pretty much original. This project is not a restoration. I am sure there are some really nice cars that should be restored. This is a take on what may have happened if Porsche kept making them.
