In my little experience with 16V engines "refinement" is unrelated to how much tractable an engine can be down low. I am happier with less instant torque off boost with my 16V engine than with my 8V which was a case of managing too much torque when I just wanted to go from A to B without caring about the performance. In this case the 16v engine offers a wider spectrum of performance and usability than the 8V. If an idiot like me was able to get there at the first iteration then I'm sure that a pro like you would make something even better, but then I understand the approach of keeping things "simple" with an 8v head.chris white wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:53 amBut the 8v is actually superior in low to mid range torque. The kind of thing you want in a street car. The goal of our project is to make a powerful and refined street car – not a max hp boy racer car. I have made quite a few of those and they are fun – but I wouldn’t want to take a week long cross country vacation in one!

There is a guy in Massachusetts (Jose Cacaro) that has a side business rebuilding hatches. He charges around $1,500 for it, and they come out better than original. He uses modern day, industrial strength adhesives, repaints the aluminum frames, etc. The problem is, you have to get your hatch to/from his location (near Boston). He runs the "East Coast Porsche 944 Turbo" Facebook group.chris white wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:43 pmwe are going with "thorough current technology re-seal"ROB III wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:17 pm Are you planning anything special on the rear hatch creaking noise like some aerospace sourced adhesive or just a thorough current technology re-seal ? There always seems to be several how-to's floating on line regarding re-seal but the original design/materials appear to be a constant source of issues.

The main issue with 16v (as I’m sure you know!) is the added cost. Custom intake, exhaust and such. The 16v does have a better sound but in reality for a driver either version of a 3 liter is capable of more power than a 944 can utilize on a daily basis.Thom wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 2:30 am In my little experience with 16V engines "refinement" is unrelated to how much tractable an engine can be down low. If somebody wants one, we can build it!
Any experience with the Borg Warner EFR’s? Thoughts?
Thanks for the info on the Xona as you are the first knowledgeable person to educate I have seen so far.
The Garrett and Borg EFR shop is across the highway from my work so I figured I would try an EFR.
The mount is easy as Fidelity Machine can make a mount for any turbo. They have multiple CMM machines that are Lego level accuracy so I figured I would scan a stock mount and then modify from there.
I’m getting a bit ahead of myself though as I am on about attempt number 20 to try and get main bearings.
Canadian dollar just went up to 70 cents US

I am in the area so let me know if I can help with this part of the project. I am extremely picky about details so I will let you know if his work will meet the level of detail you expect.NCGermerican wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 5:57 amThere is a guy in Massachusetts (Jose Cacaro) that has a side business rebuilding hatches. @NCGermerican - please list his contact as I have a hatch I may have him do.

I know of 3 944 turbos that were gone through from top to bottom. Shell, paint, suspension, interior, engine, gearbox, wheels, wiring, big power output. 2 of those owners took a beating when they wanted to sell. The 3rd that has probably had the most spent on it, still isn't finished. Want to make a small fortune building a 944 turbo, start with a big fortune.

The interior people can refoam stock seats or even convert them to sports seats. If the sliders are bad we can fix or replace them. Aftermarket seats are a possibility that we have considered. We though it would be better to keep with the original look….but if a customer wants different seats we can accommodate that.Cruise98 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 8:45 am What kinds of seats do you envision? The seat tracks on our old seats are worn out and the ball bearings have fallen out. The foam is crunchy and lost much of its shape. Ask me how I know!
