Yup. I’m aware of your front mounted system. Though honestly forgot about it.
That being said, wouldn’t a flywheel with teeth solution be cleaner, less wires and brackets. Or is there a technical drawback. Just curious.

Mounting the sensor in the back is a bit of a pain in the ass. I use hall effect sensors since the give a much better signal quality so I would have to make up some sort of an adjustable mount located where the old one was…..buried in the back! I do a lot of work on race / trackday cars and a key feature of any mod is to make it easy to access and maintain. The front trigger does that quite well.944m3 wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 10:44 am Yup. Then I think I've found the interior for you.chris white wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 10:59 am Based on the input I think we have narrowed it down to one of the following design ideas:

Reading through this thread again. I'd suggest many of us have thought 'why doesn't somebody (Porsche?!?!) revive a 944 concept or do a restomod? I'd love to see it and then watch Chris Harris flog it around a track or some epic country roads with beaming admiration asking himself and the viewers "Why didn't I know how good these cars are? What a great thing!! I want one now!" etc etc We could all puff out our chests a little with some pride if that happens.
I get the 8v position. It does make sense in many ways. Best case scenario, I'd love to see a 16v option though. It could be marketed as the RS or similar, and the buyers totally aware of the different characteristics. That's the one I'd like to see the reviewers thrash around the track. Better still, do a double review!
A question re after sales warranty. If, and I wouldn't wish this on the project, but if there were problems with say the head gasket. How quickly could the car be serviced and returned to the customer? Would your team be handling all the aftersales service and any issues? Crash repairs? Would you be geared up for that?

Good comments and questions Patrick, all helpful I imagine to Chris and the guys as they sort through the ins and outs of the project. Certainly touches on matters that potential buyers might want to know about.333pg333 wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2025 2:23 pm Reading through this thread again. I’m in Japan for holiday right now and just missed by a few weeks a Singer that was on display at a book store in Shibuya. I looked at the section (very sizeable) of automotive books and there are multiple shelves dedicated to Porsche. I’d say 9.5 of 10 books are on the 911. So I’d agree that most people willing to pay top dollar for a redone Porsche would do it for a 911 due to its popularity, panache, status symbol, resale value etc. Those of us willing to spend some money on the transaxle platform do it for the love of it and its uniqueness.
Boston-area, MA
I was in Shibuya back in October. Sorry I got the timing wrong too. Would be interesting to get up and close to a Singer all the same. Agree on the 911 popularity. Of course it's an iconic piece. It transcends just being a car.
There is a design group who have done a modern take on a 928. Guessing most have seen that. Again, not to everyone's taste but at least it's happening. Surely it's only a matter of time for the 944/68.

Some good questions / comments. We are still playing around with the final details but the current plan is for a 2.7 8v stroker as the ‘base’ engine and a 3.2 stroker 8v for the ‘S’ model. Both running a fairly conservative tune, 18psi on ‘sport’ mode and 15 psi daily use. With the Link Ecu I could allow some additional boost for short periods if all parameters are met (coolant temp, intake temp, oil temp). We are not going for max power as most of us do with our builds. OEM quality and reliability are on the top of the list.
Service – for a normal service standpoint it’s a normal 944. Take it to anybody that can service a 944 and it will be fine. For those customers that turn out to be 944 geeks at heart I will be happy to review any datalogs for issues and make adjustments. The link ECU also stores data and if are any issues we can see the cause (in most cases). I stand behind my builds and these wont be any different. With ‘new’ cars the service department is a profit center, not part of our plan. I would help any customer with issues. Many of the new components we are using come with their own warranties.
If this thing takes off and there are additional runs made I will keep a built engine in stock for a swap out if needed.
One of the key things is that all the engines (base or S) will be exactly the same. This will allow the tuning to be extremely accurate. We are planning on an extended period for driving evaluation and streetabilty refinement. 2 prototypes are already started – a base and an S.
I have considered ‘one off specialty builds’ such as a 16v turbo or even an NA if somebody really wants it. All possibilities but not the initial focus.
