We got ours in September '24 also about 2500 miles. I have the same Pflege stuff but never used it on the Targa. My error also happens more often after washing. Let me know if yours goes away after the rubber care stick.

I bought the mods4cars smart top module for my 2020 911 CS cab, but reinstalled on the Targa. It allows two great things.
1) you can open and close the top from the key fob and it allows the Targa to close or open the top up to 10 MPG. I'll take it. Never heard of it causing any problems. Google it.

Thanks

In the continuing saga.

This am I got the roof error message but at a different stage from what I believe has occurred in the past.

1. No wash recently.
2. The glass was back but the roof panel had not moved yet. Everything stopped and I got the previously stated error message.

So based on previous Nudge suggestions, I pushed up on the roof while I was in the drivers seat. I roof came free and moved an inch or two up. I then engaged the roof open button and the roof successfully opened correctly to the complete open position. I'd say it required a serious nudge. When it came free, you could clearly hear the sound of two stuck surfaces breaking free of each other.

How wonderful!

Very nice to get that Nudge suggestion from the forum!

Later, I got out my Nextzette Gummi Pflege Stift weather strip conditioner and applied to all the rubber roof seal surfaces.
Amazon $10.40 and over 5351 4.5 out of 5 reviews.

Now we shall see if it happens again.

Nextzette Gummi Pflege Stift is listed as a rubber conditioner and in use over 30 years. My car has loads of weather seals and keeping them soft and supple seems like a really good idea.

My dealer turned me on to Krytox for this sort of thing. They use it on rattles. squeaks, sticky parts, etc., and on all sorts of parts -- rubber, plastic, leather, metal, etc. It's a true lubricant -- basically liquid teflon (PFTE) in a synthetic lubricant (PFPE) base. Amazing stuff -- definitely worth a try. There's a good chance this is what the dealer would try if there are no other clear problems with the mechanism.

There are different variants of Krytox. I don't know what differentiates them. I've been lead to believe the factory uses GPL105, which is an oil. I'd wonder if that tube is 'the same' or not.

My dealer uses the 205 or 206; it's a gel that squeezes out of a tube. I believe the 206 has a slightly higher heat tolerance that 205, which is largely irrelevant in applications like this. The 105 is an oil. The factory may very well use it in some situations, I dunno, but the gel is what my dealer uses to lubricate sticky weather-stripping, plastic, leather, metal mechanisms, etc.

You all lost me with Krytox. Now I'm curious about what I should be trying to accomplish.

On the Targa roof problem, someone else mentioned Gummi Pflege Stift.
Since I already had a small bottle from my first 911, I was happy to try it.

I thought the goal was weather strip conditioning.

Because, on my 2020 CS Cab, the weather strip on the little triangular window aft of the main windows disintegrated. So on that car a 4 year old Porsche weather strip failed. On that car, you cannot just replace the weather strip, you must replace the little window with the permanently attached weather strip. So I learned that keeping weather strips in good condition was important in SW Florida.

Fast forward, and my 6 month old 911 Targa has weather strips sticking together in a way that seems to be causing my top to fail. The top issue will get fixed under warranty next month, but I'm interested extending the useful life of all the weather striping on my beloved car.

I don't really care but just want to know what product is best for about 50 or more feet of weather strips.
If it's one of the several versions of Krytox, no problem. About 4 versions were mentions above.

Thanks folks. Appreciate everyones help!

The Krytox is not really a weather-strip preservative, per se. I suggested it because you said that your problem may be related to the weather stripping sticking together. It's that very issue why Krytox excels -- lubricating and cushioning parts that might otherwise stick together or chatter, etc. The dealers seem to use GLP206, so that's the one I recommended above.

As for the best weather-strip preservative, I've heard good things about the Gummi Pflege Stift you used, but suspect the best product is the one you use most consistently....

Update in my analysis of my Targa Roof error.

I believe It’s not the roof top mechanism. It’s the weather striping sticking together. Many have said it’s more common after washing the car and that’s been my experience.
So think about it, when you wash the car, all of the weather strips get wet. When they dry, they must stick together. I had to push hard to separate them.
Likely, the future use of the weather seal preservative or silicone, or Krytox or 303 will mitigate the sticking. Another approach would be to dry the weather striping after washing or open the top and just let it air dry. Could it be this simple?

Now that my weather striping has been treated with Gummi Pflege Rubber Care Stick, I’ll see if it helps. Even after the car is washed? We shall see

I’ve decided to stop experimenting for now. I have an appointment mid April at the Porsche dealer. I’m going to let them solve the problem their way and tell me what they did. I’m keeping a log and photos of how often it happens so I can better document and explain. I’ll surely post the outcome after. Thanks!
