Isn't that the truth!! I have so far held back from contacting the seller to say WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? :D Extreme lack of fixing basic and obvious items. I'll get her there. It's just going to take longer than I hoped.

Intake boot happily ripped in half when I took it off. I have a new one on the way. Intake is REAL oily and the plugs are black. Sure looks like it's been running rich. While I'm at it the AOS is getting new seals since that seems to be the likely culprit for oil in the intake. Intake manifold comes off tomorrow for a good cleaning. It needs to anyways to get to things easier.
Pretty much all of the rubber under the hood is in some state of ugly, with a few newer hoses/pipes randomly here and there.

The more I find, the more I'm impressed with how well it ran off idle. At idle it was a different story. Once I have things buttoned up I bet it runs a lot better. It's a beautiful machine and I can't wait to drive her! She gets a wink every time I walk into the shop. The day is coming ;)

Oh boy, AOS O-Ring! Take half the engine apart to change a 50 cent O-ring. Been there.

I crawled around looking at it last night thinking I could get it off without removing the intake. Then I started doing research.... It doesn't really seem that bad of a job. It will also make getting the the battery cables much easier. Once I have it intake off and see what other parts are sure to be bad, then I'll place the parts order. Pelican must love me lately

I agree! I have been bouncing between them. At this point in the game, whoever ships faster is the winner. I have patience, but not a lot of it.

Welcome to the club. It's an adventure. I've seen a lot worse. A lot can happen over 39 years. First you should get yourself familiar with Clarks Garage and download a service manual (available online) and PET. You're gonna need part number references and schematics as well as time, and patience. It will all be worth it though. These cars are just so much damn fun, and sometimes frustrating. Enjoy and learn. I also have an 86 NA. I bought it in 87 so it is 99.9% stock original. Let me know if you need a photo of any area that might be in question during your rebuild. Good luck!

This is also a good series of videos on how to disassemble a 944 turbo. They never got around to how to assemble. I found it very helpful in my most recent rebuild.

Downloading the manuals and schematics was the first thing I did. Clark's garage is a great resource! @stoneguy I may hit you up for some pictures! Mine is stock all around and nothing has ever been touched as far as I can tell so far.

The intake, AOS, fuel lines, battery/alternator wiring, starter and all the old vacuum lines removed. EVERYTHING that was rubber or plastic disintigrated upon touching. Bagged and tagged what could be salvaged. What a mess, but as stated, we have all seen worse. Nothing that a $500 order to 944online can't fix. Hopefully they get parts to me by next weekend. That was not in the plans, but it needs fixed correctly. It's late and I'm beat. I'll post pics of the mess tomorrow. One step closer :) Hope you all had a great weekend!

While you're digging into the engine compartment, and If your budget allows, I'd recommend buying new yellow zinc fasteners from Belmetric.com. (not just just the yellow zinc, but the black screws, washers etc...)
They're a fraction of the cost of the oem versions and are of equal or better quality.
It'll really spruce up the appearance of the engine bay, and you can get rid of any corroded bits if needed.
You can find the majority of the sizes by looking on the factory pet.
If you haven't already, I'd also recommend watching NC944er on YouTube. He's quick, thorough and to the point.
His videos were helpful for several repairs I've done.

Cheers

I have a pretty good stock of stainless hardware to replace the ugly/broken bits. Although the yellow zinc would be more correct. I will take a look at Belmetric. The short term budget for this one is already blown out of the water! So what's a little more?
So far I have only snapped off one bolt, where the battery negative connects to the block. 3 days of PB and tapping on it because I knew it was tight and corroded. Nope. Pretty sure that connection is just getting moved to a nearby threaded boss. At least until I have the engine out, which I'm hoping is not soon.
Funny you should mention NC944er. I just subscribed to him yesterday after watching a few videos.
