Is there a trick to getting solder to adhere to wires?

Be careful that the vice isn't acting as a heat sink!

Well, the combination of acetone and using a dremel tool metal brush did the job of cleaning the wires enough for the solder to stick! Now to work both door wiring harnesses to make sure all connections are good. Thanks for all the help/input!
