NH / VT drive this coming monday Oct 27th

Hi, All - I would have posted this in a Northeast regional forum but there doesn't seem to be one.

A few of us from the 718 forum are going to go on a fun-road group drive in central NH and VT on Monday morning. We 're going to meet in Conway at 9:30am on Monday morning and head generally west over fun roads and onto into nearby Vermont.

If anyone from the carpokes community is interested in joining us, please let me know, and I can give you further details.

We can ask Tom to add PCA Northeast to the Regions sub of Carpokes. I believe Northeast is in Zone 1.

Hi, all - Last Monday's "international" meetup and fall drive went off without a hitch. In the end, it was all 718forum members who attended, but I figured folks on carpokes might like to hear about the trip and see the pictures. Sorry for the overlap for those of you who are members of both forums who may have already seen a variant of this posting.

Originally suggested by 718 forum user @SailingInMaine back in the spring, when everybody was especially anxious about the cross-border situation, we finally got this off the ground and in place for a late October Monday. 718 forum user @BGTS2025 and I drove down from Canada, and 718 forum users @worf, @GT40Guy, and @kwikit356 drove up from their respective hometowns in MA and NH. We all met in North Conway, NH, in the shadow of the Presidential Mountains.



We decided to first head west on the Kancamagus Highway, a beautiful scenic route that cuts across some of the higher terrain of the southern White Mountains. This section of the route was curvy but not truly twisty, but we made up for it with lots of scenic stops and met up with many other auto enthusiasts, who seemed to be out in full force. I also did a lot of photography along this stretch, subjecting everyone to lots of positioning instructions.





Continuing west beyond the Kancamagus Highway, we next did a traverse of The Sawyer Highway along the south flanks of Mount Moosilauke. This was a much quieter road, but that was all for the good, because this was a legitimate twisty road - perfectly paved, well-lined, wide, and with excellent sweepers and moderately tight corners. It was a blast riding along this section.



We continued generally west towards Vermont along backroads I had investigated and pre-marked prior to departure. These were of varying quality, but all had a nice, relaxed out-of-the-way backroad feel.

We stopped for lunch at this cool restaurant-within-an-old-mill in the town of Bedford, Vermont. Everyone was pretty happy and excited about how well the drive had gone: a fun mix of socializing, scenery, and excellent driving.



At Bedford, @worf, @kwikit356 and @GT40Guy broke off and headed back south to their respective hometowns. @BGTS2025 and I continued west, hitting various excellent stretches of good road, including VT-17 over Appalachian Gap - perhaps the best bit of tight twisty road in all of the Northeast.



Dusk fell as @BGTS2025 and I crossed through the Adirondacks on our way back to Canada - although we did manage to hit a few more excellent bits of tarmac before night fully closed in. Beyond the border, it was then a pleasant cruise for another 45 minutes back to the Ottawa-Gatineau metro area and the end of the road for us Canucks.



I'd like to thank everyone that joined (@BGTS2025, @worf, @GT40Guy and@kwikit356). For those that wanted to join but couldn't, I think we've all resolved that this was a really good experience and worth doing again, and we tentatively agreed to do this again in the spring - so hopefully more can join then.
