So I have a 2000 Boxster with a 2.5L because it was manufactured in Sept. 1999. Because of that I'm getting different numbers on my MAF sensor from site to site when I go to order. I did already buy a new MAF Bosch Model #0280217007
This was going to be a quick and easy swap, but when I pulled the old Bosch MAF out, it had a different number which was #0280218055. and Porsche number of 986.606.125.01 Keep in mind this is the actual cable accelerator not electronic throttle control.
That number on the old MAF far as I know is the MAF for the Boxster S engine : Boxster S (3.2L):Up to chassis #60257 (early 2000 production): 996-606-124-00 From chassis #60258 onward (later 2000 production): 986-606-125-01 (superseded by 986-606-125-02) Seems to me someone put the wrong MAF in as a replacement. Manufacturing. Yr. Stamp was 2005

In addition to that the connecter did not match. Mine has one side that is square and the old one has both sides rounded. So now I have to cut the MAF Lead wires (which I HATE to do) and put on a new connector. So before I perform surgery I wanted to see if anyone is willing to confirm I have the right MAF for my early model 2000 2.5L Boxster using this new 0280217007.

I don't ask easy questions because those I figure out by myself but this one has me bothered and I need a true genius to help.

Also since I've had the car for 2 years it is a dog, it's slow, my 924S has more pep and speed and my 944S makes this boxster feel like a Prius.... My thought is the MAF is screwing things up. No codes other than p0600 CAN tiptronic.

I'll add some images of the new vs. old maf and the connector I need to change
my car is sept 99 mfr. date which is 2.5 tip.

Connector on the car is round on both sides, that's what bothers me. No signs of the wires being cut, seems original

engine number is 2.5L (Not mid model change to 2.7L) 2.5 is manual cable throttle, 2.7 is E-throttle.

Ok, Problem solved, Wrong MAF. The important thing with the MAF is to choose the correct one for the right engine, If you have a cable throttle, it's a different MAF than if you have an E-gas which is an electric throttle body. Porsche swapped mid-year 99, my car is a 2000 but was made in Sept 99, but it got the E-Gas. So my MAF is the .125, not the .123 model that I had which explains why my connector was wrong and it should have been a red flag, but I wasn't an Zen MAF expert at the time, but now after weeks of working on this I am. Some pictures to go with this showing model numbers etc. I hope it helps...

I should have caught this but ordered per year and got the wrong MAF which was for 2.5L Cable and I have a 2.7 E-gas. To help someone out, you have cable throttle if you see a coil spring to the side usually 97 and 98 models and Egas just has black box on the side, says Bosch on it and no springs. I'll add some reference pictures.
