The original engine harness has the flat black 8-pin connector that mated to the one left hanging in your car. When they swapped in the '86 ENGINE harness, they left in the '87 DASH harness, and didn't know how to deal with the wires in those mis-matched connectors, so just cut the wires and left them disconnected. You just patched an '87 dash harness to an '86 engine harness. Good job.Or should I say, you patched part of it. The '86 engine harness doesn't have a hook up for the oil level sender, so if you want to get your car/dash to fully functional, you'll need to add your own wiring from the oil level sender (side of oil pan) to the appropriate wires left dangling from that flat black 8-pin dash harness connector.

I will add one minor thing: It's just one wire from the oil level sender to pin 8 on the black connector. So relatively simple to add if you go that route.
