My first ordered / built Porsche (and first 911) arrived this week, a 992.2 Targa 4S. When first seeing it, the rear glass was darker than I expected, and it turns out, it is a mistake from the factory - factory pigmented privacy glass. I actually wanted the clear glass, as I spec’ed the vehicle with exterior color inlays on the seat backs and thought they would be visible through the rear glass. As is, the factory pigmented privacy glass is quite dark.
I guess it is unique, and the pigment/tint is flawless. It is actual pigment in the glass, so it is perfectly uniform, won’t bubble, or scratch, etc. But . . . I didn’t really want a tinted rear window. For many, this would be a happy accident and a great opportunity to get a flawless tinted rear window that is otherwise notoriously difficult to tint. I am told that Porsche will replace the privacy glass with normal transparent glass if I want, but I have to decide before I take delivery.
This shot doesn’t really capture the rear, but this is the car:
Curious what you would do.

No question for me, clear glass.

My vote is for the clear. Not sure how dark the factory tint is but colored tint will impact visibility and nighttime will likely be worse. Being able to see is always my preference. The only tint I'll use is UV clear.

I like clear glass, too. We have the clear, light-weight glass in our 718, and I love the visibility. Funny, I was more focused on not seeing my inlays, than driving it. lol. But I had never planned to tint the rear, so that I would have the clear, unimpeded visibility.

The missus' Cayenne has privacy glass. Here in Florida it helps. But, hey! It's an SUV.

Boy...you got my attention with this post. My 992.2 Targa 4S was completed last week and is apparently still sitting in Zuffenhausen awaiting further transfer to Emden. I don't recall seeing a factory tinted rear window option when I created my build. The only tinting I saw was the standard equipment "Windshield with Grey Top Tint."
I've attached the "Production Complete" photo below that Porsche sent me via the TYD app. I can't tell if the rear window is tinted or not. Anybody have any guesses??
Thanks,
Jim

Well, aside from not having an answer regarding the tinted glass, she's looking so very fine!!!Pigs-In-Space wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 10:42 am Boy...you got my attention with this post. I think you got the normal glass. The pigmented glass is extremely dark. You cannot see into the back of the vehicle at all on mine. I can see into the space under the window in your shot as well as the backseats. I don’t think you’d be able to see any of that if you got the same pigmented glass that I did.

Well, I say that, but here’s the production shot of ours, and you can see into it a little.
Never occurred to me that it might not be the standard glass until it got here, and even then, I thought maybe it was just me.
