If you need a front plate and want it centered but won’t drill holes… use a couple small pieces of scotch outdoor double faced tape… works perfect!!! Doesn’t change anything and the plate won’t come off… trust me!! I had to heat mine up and use dental floss string to remove it… it’s the perfect quick fix

Do it good naturedly with a smile and, assuming no other infractions in play, you might get a return smile and a "have a good day" response.

At the grave risk of jinx'ing myself, I'll admit I have not had a front plate on my 944 for the last few decades, never had one on my 991, and don't have one on my 992 (or 450SL). Always put them on my daily drivers though. In addition to tacking it onto an unrelated traffic stop, the meter maids are big on ticketing for no front plates -- but I almost never park my 'fun' cars in those kinds of locations....

edit: CA has a front vinyl plate program. This thread is motivating me to look into that....

Vinyl is much better than drilling holes but still looks bad on the fronts of such nice cars. However, I imagine enforcement will pick up significantly due to a "no more excuses" perspective from the gendarmes. Found the following:

"California spent over seven years testing the front plate wrap concept starting with highway patrol cars.

Are you tired of front license plates ruining the look of cars? Well, it may be time to move to California because the state is now offering an innovative alternative to metal front license plates. Instead of drilling holes in your front bumper or adding a plastic bracket, California will allow residents to add a sticker of their front license plate to the front of their cars. This means California residents no longer have to worry about ugly front plates ruining their car’s styling."

The last sentence is silly and incorrect imo. "...no longer have to worry about ugly front plates ruining their car’s styling."

Huh? Minus no holes (which is definitely a good thing) and aerodynamics, the ugly plate is still there. But, I will admit that it's an improvement over plate brackets and mounts and holes.

In some cases a vinyl decal might be better.. you get one shot to put it on straight tho…

Try my double faced tape trick… works real good

That's actually pretty great about the decal and no drilling, even though it's still ugly. Double-faced tape is a great idea too.

Living in OH, it was required up until maybe two years ago...I've never run a front plate. I live next to the PA (no fronts) border & was often lucky enough to find vehicles that weren't drilled for the front plates as well. When I bought the Cayman in NH, the dealer was using the tow hook mount option on their vehicle inventory.

I think I'd take my chances in any state until it becomes a problem for me.

I too live in NY and face the same dilemma. I am seriously considering purchasing STO N SHO front license plate bracket. It mounts underneath the car and costs $99 on amazon. It’s has a quick release pull for when you don’t want the plate to show. Here is the link
Good luck.

Taking my chances. I live in New York City and occasionally drive on weekends within New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania. I have no front plates. Never stopped. Just don't think it's a priority of the police unless your pulled over for some other reason.

I purchased the STO N SHO bracket for my 2020 Taycan about a year ago. Texas requires a front plate, but the Porsches look better without them. I did get pulled over, just because I didn't have the front plate. I got away with a warning, but it happened on a road I frequent, and I was thinking if that same Cop pulls me over again - it won't be a warning.

You would think he had something better to do, maybe he just wanted a close look at the car.
Regards,
Rich
