I was just talking to Steve about this today actually, as well as starters. Going to be a problem indefinitely.

I actually have a Nissan Quest alternator with the correct pulley for our cars. I never got around to doing the cutting/grinding required because I decided to keep my current 200amp alternator. I even have the wiring adapter for the ignitor wire. I'll probably just end up selling it but the shipping would be $$$ because it's not light.

FWIW, the Bosch AL170X is the one I have on my 928, and it's a perfect match for the original in fit, function, and appearance. The factory cooling shroud fits perfectly. Bosch lists it for 944 and 968 cars. 115A rating is sufficient unless you are powering some massive stereo or something. I happened to get mine locally from a now-gone 'parts warehouse' chain in SoCal a dozen years or so ago, very reasonably priced. I see it today on Pelican for $211 plus core. https://www.pelicanparts.com/search/?q=AL170X
It turned out that the alternator wasn't the cause of my "not charging the battery enough" problem. That turned out to be a corroded ground strap. I rebuilt the original with new bearings and a brushes/regulator kit after a thorough cleaning, and it's living the life in the working spares bin that goes with car to the next caretaker.
