Since I do not have a handbook for my 968 I do not know what that attention arrow in the middle of the instrument cluster stands for. If mem serves me I think it means ATTENTION "don't drive this freaking car cause the handbrake is on". Yet when i pull the wire that goes to the handbrake the red arrow stays on. Could be orange ( I am color blind and my color code reader is at work.
Thanks bunch for such a dumb question.

That light is commonly thought of as the a parking brake light, but illuminates with a number of the other warning lights too. When it is on, do you see any other warning lights lit up on the dash?

Yup Tom. Next to Red EXCLAMATION point is message about air bag and parking brake.
Cleaning switch got rid of parking brake message HOWWVER air bag light is still on which makes me think if I disconnected air bag the exclamation point would go away. In a 35yo I would think they would offer little protection

You probably just need to reset the warning light. That's the good news. The bad news is that you need the Hammer Diagnostic tool (or equivalent) to reset it. Some people cut the wire that carries the warning signal instead. I can look that up if interested...

Or, like I did with the 944S upshift indicator, just put a small piece of black electrical tape over it on the gauge. Not an elegant solution, and I don’t notice that the tape is there.

Ya that is my usual default fix. A piece of electrical tape.
