Could not find a source aanywhere. Would just sticking in some new incandescents give me some more light?

You can replace the stock bulbs with leds for sure. But you should also refurbish the cluster reflectors while it's out, per these instructions:

I replaced all three of mine a few years ago and now only one is working. I have a hard time believing they burned out already, but will need to remove the cluster to check. Is there anything common that happens to interrupt current to these bulbs?

Tom's modification in is very very nice, but I'm happy enough with the stock setup as long as it is working.
