To keep or not to keep after the engine replacement - that's a question that has no right or wrong answer I guess. If you like the Macan and, if after the replacement it drives and sounds right, and if there are no new "what is that" kinds of noises or behaviors, then maybe keep it.

Depending on those observations, you could always test the market to see what kind of offers it generates. Come up with a minimum figure that you'd accept and price it a bit higher and see what happens.

So the final ebay price was close to 6K, which surprised me. I cancelled the sale having committed to the engine replacement. I will continue updates, in case any one else ends up in my shoes.

Wow, that is an excellent price considering. Glad things are starting to work out somewhat better for you!

As a follow up, my mechanic found an engine which he was happy with after thorough inspection with 50k miles. It cost $9k and installed it for $4k. Drives great. Recently in Panorama I saw a Macan with about 150k miles for $15,000. So…for now I’m keeping it ( I think).

I'm the guy that posted some time back and got the new engine under warranty. Fortunately I was under factory warranty, but not much left (I think I had 45k miles and 50k warranty). I made the very smart decision to but the Porsche Platinum warranty as well, as I had read that transfer cases go out. I'm glad I did, as about 3k miles ago my steering rack went out ($6k+ replacement), and now I'm waiting for something else big to happen. With the engine, I got PNA involved because the dealer thought the fix was a tappet. I always feel like I know more than the dealer. I asked in the beginning, can you scope the cylinders for bore scoring? They didn't until they took the heads off to fix the tappet, put it back together, and what do you know - the tapping sound was still there. THEN they scoped it and voila! Bore scoring! They were involved with the dealer from day one to get it right and lean on them, but not sure what would have happened if I wasn't under warranty. I've done a lot of research on this failure and my conclusion is that letting the car warm up at idle in cold weather is the cause. I've talked to the Porsche Club on this, and they agree. Don't idle your cars to warm up in cold climates. I bought this car from an independent dealer in Charlotte, and the car originally came from upstate NY. Very disappointing that a Porsche for gosh sakes fails in so many ways. What happened to build quality? I'll be dumping this (2020 Macan S) that I love right before warranty is up. After a 1974 911, 74 914, 3 Boxster S's, 2 Cayennes, 2 Macan's and a Panamera S (of which the PDK failed), my Macan S experience ruined the brand for me. I think I'll go back to air cooled. Never had a problem.

Wow!!! Thanks for that post. I'm still in la-la land because I keep thinking it was a fluke. I still drive a 2010 Panamera 4S which I bought new and now has 255k miles on it and has been a faithful servant; I did all the routine maintenance on it. Like you I have had multiple Porsches since my first 993 4S and have had no problems; all daily drivers. My disappointment was with PNA (we can't help, it has too many miles) and the dealer which made no effort to help, as in trade in or whatever; just some sign they gave a darn. So for now it's running fine and I have a total of 123k miles on it and about 5k on the "new" engine. As for the cylinder scoring, that was the first thing my local small town Ohio mechanic did: put a scope down each of them (as he did with the "new" engine before putting in}.
As an aside, an old retired mechanic who is still knowledgeable told me that the V6 is a Chevy/GM block and is not meant to last. I didn't investigate; any thoughts?
I don't understand the warm up issue; here at the worst of winter we get below 0 temps, so starting it and letting it warm up is routine.
Thanks again. This is really a helpful forum.

piston slap, eh? Since VW is the Uber company for many brands have you explored creating an orphan? There are many similarities between Audi and Macan. I remember speaking with someone who was a big Audi fan and used those engines in other VW brands. Will take some research but I think it can be done.
Best of luck
BTW I have two transaxle cars and when the coupe lets loose there is an SBC in its future. WHy you may ask? The 6.2L in my Corvette is so boringly reliable that the only fun is to smoke the tires.
