Took my 2021 Macan S in for it's 40K service in central Florida. Was charged $4900. Almost had a heart attack. Is this a normal price?

Welcome to Carpokes, though I wish it were for a happier reason. What on earth did they do for $4900? Did they give you an estimate upfront? Did they give you an itemized invoice when finished? Is your car under warranty? Sounds crazy to me, though maybe I'm out of touch. I've read a lot of service departments started running up their fees when new cars were in short supply, as a way to stay afloat. My wife experienced this at a Subaru dealer, where they gave her a $5k estimate for maybe $1.5k worth of work. One of the items on the list was a new 'drive belt' for $650. After fighting through a bunch of BS, the drive belt turned out to be a serpentine belt with a full retail dealer cost of $50, and an online price of $25. I got the factory belt online for $25, and installed it in less than 5 minutes thanks to a spring loaded tensioner. I get that dealers need to make a profit, but this was a near criminal attempt to bilk my wife. No idea if your dealer did that to you, but $4900 for a standard Macan servicing warrants a closer look IMHO.Tikibarman wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2024 6:57 am Took my 2021 Macan S in for it's 40K service in central Florida. This is not appropriate as I chatted with my local Porsche Dealer ( Porsche of Omaha ) for the same service and I was quoted about half as much. Was there some problem that was found that since you are likely out of warranty coverage, that was also billed ?

That seems to be an extraordinarily high amount, even for the 4-yr/40k "Full Maintenance" cycle. Was any other work performed outside of the 40k service? Is your Macan out of the full 4-yr wty and in need of some unexpected component?
I use the following grid for the three different service cycles that Porsche is currently using. Pricing and work done varies greatly between the three as you go up the ladder. The "Full" will be costly, but as I understand it should not be anywhere near the level you paid, assuming nothing else done outside of the factory required "Full" service.
Service Intervals:
Basic Maintenance - years 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, etc (or at 10k, 30k, 50k, 70k, 90k, etc).
Intermediate Maintenance - years 2, 6, 10, etc (or at 20k, 60k, 100k, etc).
Full Maintenance - years 4, 8, 12, etc (or at 40k, 80k, 120k, etc).
Replace spark plugs every 4-yrs or 30k.

I pre-schedule the service and they quoted the price when I got there and signed the car in. I was shocked but went thru with it. This was Maitland. The car was under warranty. The did replace the headlights as they said there was some cracking but they were covered under warranty.

The full retail price on sparks plugs from the dealer for your car is $40.02, so it looks like they are charging full list retail for parts. Many dealers summarily discount parts on shop work -- mine starts at 10% off and often does better. For reference, Sunset sells the same plugs for $25. I can't quite make sense of the labor cost though. Some of the parts listed are actually labor -- like brake flush and bleed, since they are charging separately for the fluid itself. But assuming the total labor was in fact $3291.94, that would imply about 13 hours of labor at a typical $250/hr dealer rate. I can't see any way for that work to take that long -- they essentially changed the oil, tranny fluid, plugs, and cabin filters. My guess is they have a 'standard' labor charge for some/all of those tasks, which exceeds the actual labor time. Even in the world of Porsche servicing costs, I think they milked every penny out of this servicing, with little to no regard about whether you'd ever go back. I wouldn't.
I spent $2650 at my dealer for the 40k, since my 4-yr warranty was almost up. I had them do everything, even changing my fob batteries, cabin filter and Porsche wiper blades. It was my first dealer visit & I wanted to make a good impression. They did some warranty work at the same time, too. The only things I didn’t expect were the coolant, oil and gas additives. They gave me the estimate in advance and added a discount at the end, actually coming in a bit under the estimate. Next year, I’ll delete those additives, change my own oil & cabin and air filters. Should be fun!

That price sounds a lot more reasonable to me.
Thanks
Thanks
My four year service is coming up this year and they told me it would be about $5000 which blew me away… i’ve been thinking about researching and finding a Porsche mechanic that’s not a dealer but part of me thinks that might be shortsighted. Any thoughts?
