You mentioned you sold the 930 when the talented mechanic who serviced the car passed away. That points to a concern I've heard numerous times about servicing older cars, be they Porsches, BMW, MB, Ferrari, Lamborghini, whatever. Current vehicles are so modular that fixing an issue that isn't found by a test program plugged into a specific control module of the vehicle is much more challenging to diagnose and rectify, particularly those of the early transition days of computerized, non purely mechanical systems. Older, pre OBD type vehicles that require an experienced tech may languish due to lack of background and experience. I feel CARPOKES members are very fortunate to have such an open and knowledgeable venue and dedicated member body that with a few posts, many issues can be diagnosed and addressed, even perplexing issues from full rebuilds get a lot of visibility within their specific grouping that deep, hidden issues ultimately get resolved which only adds to the value of this group.
My apologies for the long winded high jack but your comment hit me as a EUREKA moment to perhaps state the obvious.

Occupation: Recently retired software guy

Had the 968 for 18 years now. Growing up, I was a corvette guy. One of my early bosses had a 928 and he was very proud of it. I thought it was very funny looking. I ended up with the 968 while looking for a second car so my son-in-law could drive my daily RAM 1500 at the time. Was looking for a 4 seater, a friend turned me on to the 944's so was looking for that, the 968 popped up and even though it only has 2 seats, I fell in love with it! Price was right so I bought it but boy, was the wife unhappy! Lost the wife in the end but kept the car, all good.

With retirement, I've been looking to find a new toy to replace the 968 but just can't bring myself to get rid of her (not enough room for two toys) but time will tell. Drove a C8, several Boxsters, a Panamera, and several Jag F-Types. For now, the 968 has been keeping me busy with maintenance updates (just finished the variocam pads and chain). She's running great. Next is the odometer gear, then front seat covers, then... well, it's a long list.

Look forward to learning more and mingling.

Decisions are always fun but not always easy, especially when they run the gamut of your new toy thoughts. Regarding your "not enough room for two toys" comment, I say there's always a way! And don't forget the N+1 option.

Welcome aboard! Great background story! Lots of 944 folks know of Santee as the home of the original Huntley Racing, and then Speed Force Racing for years (which appears to have gone out of business recently...).

968 Cabs tend to be a rare sighting.
Interesting backstory, and the Corvette to Porsche seems to be a natural transition.
