I wonder if you can use the sd card in the factory infotainment system and view the video. That would be pretty cool!

New to dash cams-what’s the advantage of this one to others similarly priced?

Super cheap and free returns on Amazon-just ordered! When plugging into the passenger side outlet, does the camera stay on all the time or can you use one of the settings to have it turn off automatically? Afraid of draining the battery...

I have prewiring installed in my 2023 cabriolet.Augustom wrote: Thu Dec 15, 2022 7:01 pm Did any of you have the dash cam pre wire option from factory? I have the option but have no idea were the wire is at.
I haven’t been able to investigate where it “appears”
It’s definitely not plug and play.
The Porsche camera install pdf has it coming out by the rear mirror windshield plastic cover.
When I get a chance I will remove the cover for the overhead vanity lights to see if there is a cable in there.

Not as low a cost as some others, but certainly innocuous and unobtrusive is the Garmin Mini-Cam.
Pictures are of the installation on my 2021 C2S.
The camera can not be seen when seated in the car.

I have just installed the Garmin Mini 2 dashcam in my 981 Cayman S.
If you have the auto dimming rear view mirror, you can simply tap into the connector in the mirror housing using Dongar Technologies (San Francisco based) adaptor for Porsche (about $40).
It was easy (5 minutes, no kidding) and results in a clean one short wire (maybe 2.5" showing) for USB connector from under mirror housing to camera.
It looks great, is tiny, and hardly noticeable from inside the cabin or outside.
The camera itself is basic. The quality is decent and the camera turns on and shuts off with the car.
Just what I wanted, no GPS recording your speed. There is a good YouTube video on line showing how it is done in a 911. My Cayman worked out to be the same.
