PPF front or entire car
My 992 is arriving at the dealer in 3 weeks. Still pinching myself that my dream of 30 years is about to happen. I am getting different feedback regarding full or half PPF. I am not tracking the car, but it will be a daily and I live near NYC. I am also getting full ceramic coating. Not sure why not get full PPF, but also do not want to waste money. Thanks
I would do the whole car. It is a huge investment. You will get your money back when you sell your car. I did mine in complete stealth.ebeller08 wrote: Tue Jul 05, 2022 3:53 pm My 992 is arriving at the dealer in 3 weeks. Still pinching myself that my dream of 30 years is about to happen. On my 991, I had the whole car done. I kept it about 3 years and in that time I had three impacts big enough to cut the 3M ppf, which would have been paint chips for sure without the protection. One was on the rear wing, one on the flare in front of the rear wheel, and one on top of the passenger fender about half way back. I'm sure, statistically, a big majority of chips are in the front, but chips do happen elsewhere... PPF can also help with door dings. The metal still dents, but if it doesn't cut through the film, you can have the paintless dent guys make it look new. On the other hand, if you do get paint damage despite the ppf, removing and re-installing the ppf can cost more than the repair -- ask me how I know.... I still feel better wrapping the whole car though. You never get a second chance to have true, undamaged, factory paint...

Here's another viewpoint.
I picked up my new 992 coupe on 12/31 last year and it does not have any ppf except the rear fender protection applied at the factory.
I decided not to have ppf installed and generally I do not keep my primary cars longer than 3 years.
In fact, due to crazy car market at the moment, I am trading my coupe for a new cabriolet which is scheduled to be delivered this October.
There are zero chips on my car, by good fortune and low miles, but the dealer isn't giving me the MSRP I paid as the trade in value because there are no chips - I don't believe he really cares.
In my opinion, installing PPF is dependent on your personal desire and feelings about paint protection - there is no right or wrong decision. But financially it never makes sense as a return on investment.
Ironically my dealer is not charging "market adjustment" on the new 992 but does "require" PPF be purchased, so I will actually have it on the new car even though I would not have purchased it given the choice

When I lease a car I do not have it done. On the other hand, I have had PPF done on the majority of my cars if I purchase them. My two most recent experiences were on my Aston Martin DB11 and on my wife's 981 Boxster S. For the Aston, I had the paint corrected, full body PPF and ceramic coating. It cost a little north of $8k. I sold the car last year, and the dealer did not give me anything extra for the PPF (I wasn't expecting anything - so no surprise). For my wife's 2013 981, I had front PPF applied when the car was new. It only has 15k miles and is in mint condition. With the advances in PPF since 2013, this year I had the old PPF removed and new Xpel Ultimate applied to the front. It cost about $2100. When we eventually sell the car, I don't expect much direct ROI other than the condition of the car will be excellent so I should receive the higher end of the trade in value.
In the future, I would probably stick with front end PPF vs entire car in light of the cost difference.

BTW - we are now in Ct for the summer (actually in New Hampshire this week) - we wont be back in Ga until mid October after we get back from Europe. Should be back to take delivery of the new cabriolet at the end of October

@audi4t It sounds like a great way to start the fall. I'm driving my Taycan from Westport, CT back to the house in Milton, GA in two weeks. With gas prices at record levels, it is a great time to have an EV for the road trip (it won't cost anything to charge at the Electrify America stations along the route).
Perhaps in the fall, we can have a get together of the members in the metro Atlanta area.

That would be very cool. If you do, free Carpokes hats for everyone.
