Techron is the only thing worth it's weight. It contains and runs PEA (Google it) and the only other product that might come close which is very very hard to find is Redline SL-1. Run it in a quarter tank of gas and let it flow through. Doesn't hurt to run it occasionally.
Check out bobtheoilguy.com. biblical knowledge on fuel system cleaners, and real world testing. By and large the best oil tech forum on the planet
My other car breathes carbon (think 1/4inch thick sludge) because of 1st gen FSI with no injector washing tech invented yet(thank you ford for inventing the fix and Ferrari for optimizing it) and Techron is the only additive that actually isn't snake oil. Just buy the full techron complete, and not just the gray injector cleanser which is a diluted version.
Techron fuel additive
How much are you paying in the US for petrol…..approx £1.90 - £2.00 per litre here now……Throttlesteer wrote: Tue Jun 14, 2022 12:59 pm It's obviously not going to hurt anything. But I agree, if you're using top tier gas, you're probably in good shape without the additives. If you buy the cheaper stuff (because nothing is cheap these days), it's probably a good idea. All of the top tier gas stations have an additive package. I'm not sure if some are really better than others.

I did a quick price comparison
There are 3.79 liters to a US gallon and the current exchange rate is about $1.22 to £1
Gas price in the states varies tremendously by state - in Georgia it’s now under $4 a gallon in California over $6
This roughly works out to be £0.86 and £1.29 per liter respectively.

Techron is certainly the leader and trusted by all. But I wouldn't say the rest are snake oil. Although there are a number of garbage products that could potentially do more harm than good, Royal Purple, Lucas, Redline, Amsoil, Berryman and a few others actually provide some benefit. The other point to make is, there's a big difference between fuel system cleaners, octane boosters, fuel stabilizers, etc..
Bobistheoilguy is a great site and has lots of information on the subject. In reality, unless you're going to perform a VERY expensive, long-term, side-by-side test with all of the products....and then tear down the motors to measure the impact, most of the feedback will be perceived/anecdotal. I use top-tier gas and occasionally consider a bottle of Techron (because it's easy to find). I have yet to find a Porsche owner that is stranded at the side of the road because they didn't use (or used the wrong) fuel additive.

Wow - that's almost for nothing at £0.86. It didnt even hit that low in the middle of the longest covid lockdown - it was still around £0.99. Problem is half of our petrol costs are tax (fuel duty and VAT). Thing is when they see people still buying it, the price only ever comes down very very slowlyaudi4t wrote: Wed Jun 29, 2022 3:36 am I did a quick price comparison

The thing is, I have. (Hope you can take that with a grain of understanding that I'm not trying to be defensive. I have a (gumball sized) ball of gummed carbon I use for solvent testing, taken directly from my FSI engine. Lucas and royal purple didn't do a thing but scratch the surface. Techron actually starts eating it and making the consistency mucky/muddy. Redline does it as well. Seafoam and stp were as good as pouring water on it. All tests were sitting in fluid for at least ten minutes each.

Fair enough. Keep in mind, solvents behave differently when ignited, under compression, and mixed with gasoline. Simply pouring these products on a gummy ball of built-up residue doesn't simulate what happens when these are added to your fuel tank. However, it is a good indicator on the effectiveness of a product when conducting a "piston soak" treatment. Additives can remove water and dissolve deposits, in addition to cleaning fuel injectors. I'm a firm believer in Techron, as you are. But, I do think there are other products on the market that have been proven effective as well. Some top tier gas additive packages have been extensively tested in motors with tear down and shown to be quite successful. Bobistheoilguy also has this information.Jimmy wrote: Sat Jul 02, 2022 12:50 amThrottlesteer wrote: Wed Jun 29, 2022 8:07 am Techron is certainly the leader and trusted by all. Is the Complete Fuel System Cleaner overkill versus the Fuel Injector Cleaner if it's just general maintenance (every 4-5 fill ups)?

I have always run Shell V Power with nitro + in my Porsche and BMW and throw in a bottle of Lucas upper cylinder and fuel injector cleaner every couple of months or so Heard nothing but good things about Lucas products
