NOTE: The following issue has nothing to do with a dead battery.

I’m following a discussion on a C8 forum regarding the lack of a mechanical, keyed lock on the 2023’s rear hatch. The keyed lock was eliminated for 2023 and, shockingly, the solution, should the electric lock fail, is to drill a 3” hole in the rear deck. No, really.

That said, a fellow Porsche owner on the C8 forum has stated, based on info from a Porsche service manager, that our cars have hidden access to cable pulls behind the fenders as a last resort for frunk/trunk access. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I researched this on Friday when I saw your post… couldn’t find anything vis a vis 2023, but emergency release cable were def present a few years earlier. I’ll be interested to see if anyone comes up with something definitive.

Note that 2023 is only in reference to Chevy eliminating key access on the C8’s rear hatch.

At least for the cabin, the 992 has the hidden keyhole under the door handle. Does the 718 not have that? (See pic from my DIY article below.) Or are you talking about getting in the frunk if the mechanism has power and still doesn't work? I have not confirmed for the 992 or 718, but for the last several generations of the 911, there is an emergency release cable you can access behind the front wheel liner.

That has to be an 'oops' moment for GM -- have to imagine they will add some better way to get in....

Yes, the 718 has key access to the cabin under the door handle. I’m talking about an electronic lock failure of either the frunk or trunk, not a dead battery. I believe there are cables behind a wheel liner, but haven’t confirmed. Just one of those things you’d like to know if the worst case scenario ever presents itself.
