The Red kart is a reproduction 1962 Go Kart 1200 I did a run of 10 karts back in 2000.It has twin 135 CC West Bend engines on Alky.It's geaded now for about 70 mph.The twin engine karts are more or less a point & shoot affair.With 60 durometer tires these are a hand full driven at speed.

Think Monterery Historics with vintage race karts.We have 3-4 events a year.It's alot of fun to get these old karts out there 10-20 on the track and dice things up.

The side winder karts are much more handling friendly and run a bit more sticker tire.

What a fun hobby! 65 mph in a kart must feel like a rocket. When I was a kid I don’t think I ever went faster than 15-20 mph in a Go-Cart and that felt fast.

Yes, 65-70 MPH feels very fast that close to ground.Things happen very fast at that speed in a Go Kart.It's a very good work out to get a 130 lb. Go Kart around a kart track at race speeds.

All the ones you've pictured are marvelous looking carts. Makes me want to get in one right now, today!

I can't imagine 65mph in a cart. Bet it would be fun and scary!

You get used to the speed!I have to say my GT-4 is probably as close to a Go Kart that you can get for the road.The G forces are very close to the same sensation.It requires some focus to get these old karts around a track but it is super fun!It's nothing like the indoor electric karts most people are exposed to, this is another level all together.

I can relate to the track sensations, just not sure what it would be like in a cart a few inches off the ground at speed. As far as your comparisons to a GT4, that's quite interesting. I do know that mine is an absolute blast to drive anywhere and everywhere, especially on track!

I had fellow Carpokian Crazy Eddie out to the track a couple years back.It was a pretty hot day here in northern California so it became a bit of a hot day's worth of labor if your not used to the Karts & the G forces.The one thing driving the Kart over a car like a GT-4 is in the kart you carry as much momentum as you can.In a car you have alot of power on tap and a gear box to correct any entrance & exit mistakes in turns.The kart requires smooth flowing driving to maintain fast lap times.When you get it right it is a fantastic sensation!

The rear engine karts are meant to slide with the chassis design and hard tires from that era.The side winder karts had completely different chassis designs and generate more grip over the the rear engine karts.

It's fun to jump back & forth from the rear engine karts to side winders.My collection is about (LOL) 20 restored karts.This being a public media site I become vague in the actual count since I suppose my wife at some point could read this

Too funny, especially since "about 20" is safe but the actual kart count is not!

I've been collecting fountain pens for a few years. Nothing really high-end - think Diplomat Aero, Sailor 1911S, Karas. A few common vintage pens plus more than a few inexpensive Chinese. All intended as daily writers, no drawer queens.

The one I reach for the most is a $20 knock-off of a Kaweco brass Sport. Would hate to lose that one, so I bought another as a backup. A Lamy studio is #2 on the favorite list.
