Hey,
Don't know if it helps much, but I'm in the process of designing a new mount, that allows the Nissan unit to bolt on with no modifications or grinding and will retain the AC unit. Product is currently in prototyping

Sounds expensive for what is a simple solution though... What's the benefit/value here? It seems like a solution that isn't necessary.

It depends on the person, To me there's no reason why we don't have more bolt in options as a car community, We are still cutting and grinding things to make them work on our cars instead of our aftermarket companies listening and making parts that fit its a tad barbaric. Some people would like the option of a bolt in kit that requires not cutting or grinding of your car or its parts. Look at almost every other car community, most have parts that fit outta the box. Price has not been finalized yet, there are plenty of ways to reduce cost as well. Think how nice it would be to have a complete kit, mount, wiring, alternator and hardware, one click, everything you need, bolts on 100% and can always be returned to factory if needed.

I'm in! I had to grind 3 alternators to make one work. If a fancy cnc mount means I'll never have to do that again, then take my money please!

Why not find a better alternator then and make a bracket to fit it? The only reason for the Nissan part was because it was easily modified. People have had part failures on these and it seems if you want to solve a problem take it to the next level.

I have to say, I don't think the Nissan alternator is a particularly close fit really. The bolts lined up (not perfectly) but otherwise, meh... That said, all of the problems I had (and have heard about) were from the cheap-o rebuild offered by the eBay guy. He's popular since he offers the pulley, and is cheap, but if you ever open up his alternators and compare it to a quality rebuild, it's pretty obvious why they fail. So if you're doing a custom bracket, I'm not sure the Nissan unit is inherently any better or worst than most, but if you want to make a kit of it, be sure to include the pulley!

Bracket that allows a newer, smaller, alternator that retains the A/C compressor mounting provisions would be awesome!!
However, 100% agree regarding the Nissan alternator - Finding a better option than the Nissan part is key. That was basically the reason I started the thread. I was hoping someone had found a newer option. Using a 20 year old part that's not available new anymore and difficult to find quality remanufactured units for is not so ideal...

If you browse Summit Racing, they have some pretty incredible looking alternators, in colors, billet, polished, etc., some upwards of $1,000....!! What we need is someone who works at PepBoys or a Pick n Pull or some other place with dozens of alternators, to see what might be a better and more readily available fit.... I'm in on the bracket either way though -- the Nissan alternator is 'good enough' for my purposes when rebuilt with quality parts, assuming you could bolt it in without grinding....

If you see the picture I posted previously, there is a simpler way to be able to adapt more modern alternators to our existing mounts without having to modify the mount itself.

As shown in post #3 of this thread you mean? Looks like a custom bracket extension? Hard to get my bearings on those pictures, but is that extension piece using the a/c compressor mount location, making it an a/c delete approach?
