As WillyDaP said, no to Pirelli!

I'll expand (mild hijack) the thread a bit and include OEM tires for all three current P-cars...

2019 Cayenne Turbo came with Pirelli P Zero Max Performance Summer - no likey!!! - horrid wear, noisy, squirrelly feel. Replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Max Performance for summer (love 'em) and Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV "N0" for winter (fantastic winter tires).

2022 Turbo S came with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport Max Performance Summer "NAO" (outstanding tires so far) and I have Goodyear M+S Ultra Grip Performance "NAO" Gen 1 for winter, also fantastic tires. (Both the summer and winter Goodyears are made in Germany, for whatever that's worth.)

2021 GT4 came with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's. I have also tracked with Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 but I prefer the Michelins. On my eighth set of tires counting the ones on the new Apex forged 19" wheels that I'll be trying out on track soon. Will also give Hoosier R7's a shot on the car at some point. (I used to run A7's on a non-Porsche track car. Hoosiers are sweet for the track.) Putting Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on the OEM 20" wheels for off-season use.

I have enjoyed two sets of the PS4S on my R32 already so it was a natural fit for me on the GTS. I am sure there are other great street tires out there but when you know what you like, why change the formula.

Not sure if I mentioned this previously but tirerack for some reason is the largest distributor of the Porsche specific Michelin tire line, they can always get them. Discount tire now owns Tirerack, that means you can get your favorite Porsche specific tire, right at the corner tire shop when they go on sale. Win, win, win.

I did not know that about Discount Tire buying Tire Rack. Interesting. But as you said, probably a good thing, hopefully anyway! Do you think the pricing will be consistent from online to the brick & mortar stores? I wonder if Tire Rack will continue to drop ship online orders to non-Discount Tire stores? (I feel relatively confident that won't change.)

My understanding is TireRack will continue as to operate as always and will drop ship to anybody just as before. I would not be surprised if they continue to grow the suspension and brake parts for sale.

Considering RE-71RS for my track wheels when they need a set, Discount has them in stock!

Heck , Larry posted at almost 6 pm in California so he was likely sampling some of the State's finest while posting. I had a great Syrah while in NorCal last month, so I completely understand his minor issue, ha!

J-Dub,

Checking out the Porsches running at the Solo Nationals I chatted with quite a few of the drivers running the RE71RSs and it seemed the tire of choice by a bigger margin over the Yokohamas than last year. Ironically , the National Winners running either Yokohamas or Bridgestones were tied at 16 each, but Porsches favored the Bridgerocks. This will be the direction I go as the Yokes tend to last only a lap or two during Time Trials whereas the RE71RSs seem to hold on a bit longer before getting greasy. It appears to be a bit better as a dual purpose tire, and is also a little bit cheaper.
One interesting note is autocrossers occasionally do something I never recommend on cars running on the track and that is using two different tire brands, but one interesting note , especially with Porsches, is mixing the A052s with the RE71RSs, with the idea that the Yokes come in even faster so they may help steering response. What is a tab bit humorous is some feel the Yokes actually work better in the rear, so you end up seeing cars with both placements and each driver sure his concept is the best.

PS - One further note for those deciding to get their tires from TireRack or Discount Tire, you may find that your local Discount Tire Dealer will match the TireRack price and since they will mount said, any issues later or getting free rotation will be in effect. Surprisingly many Discount Stores will not honor mounting issues, tire concerns, etc. if the tires are not purchased from them, and though they own TireRack it is also the case with tires bought there.

Just an aside - Discount bought Tire Rack 2 years ago. So if you haven't seen changes yet, you aren't likely to see any going forward.

As Arne mentioned , it has been awhile and there really have not been any changes. If you do want up to date track and autocross data, check with Luke Pavlik at TireRack , ext.# 4362. He has been there for 25 years and is a Trackrat himself so he keeps up religiously on what is changing or in the pipeline. He is a great guy to talk to to assess what each individual is actually looking for in a tire ( i.e. street use, street and autocross, track , etc. ).
