Appreciate it. I should have sanded things down more and/or used some filler to smooth more things out, so it's definitely a 5 or 10-foot job, but most people aren't getting closer than that to my wheels.akaBoB68 wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 5:36 am Turned out nice! Can you share details about the paint: code, was it a base clear, single stage etc. my local paint shop is good about mixing things up and my father-in-law’s 88 could use some freshening up of the wheels.
I used Proform 1K high build primer/filler for the base as it can go over bare metal. It's a base/clear. Base was Omni MBP in VW Reflex Silver LA7W with Omni Plus MC161 clear coat. I don't know how good of a match it is shade wise to the original color, but it's pretty close to what I I was looking for and I doubt anyone would know without a side-by-side comparison. I'm pretty sure it's got a coarser flake than the original, but I also don't think it's something that would be noticed with casual observation. What put it over the edge over trying to find a better color was the fact I had enough left over from a bumper respray on my Passat that I didn't have to buy anything but the primer.
