No, there isn't anything inherent in the geometry that would cause faster synchro wear, but the ability to shift more accurately and quickly might encourage faster shifting, which in turn could lead to accelerated wear if precise rev-matching and clutch action are not used. I especially caution my air-cooled Porsche 911 customers with cars that use Porsche synchromesh that installation of a modern shifter could lead to this scenario.Poorsche44 wrote: Tue Nov 18, 2025 4:52 pm Is there any concern wearing out brass synchros faster with a short shifter?
Yes, but the Only944 shift lever alone takes care of all the side to side slop problem (see animation in the first link below) while maintaining the original shift geometry. I have the shift lever only on my 944S2 Cabrio (which is appropriate for its cruiser status), and both the the shift lever and the short shifter assembly (mounted on the transaxle) on my 951 track car.Belgian951 wrote: Tue Nov 18, 2025 10:18 pm Is there a oem shifter replacement available? So one without shorter throw?
Both setups are fantastic for their intended purpose.
