Speed and reference sensor gap adjustment

Sorry for confusing you Tom.

I purchased new sensors. The harness connectors on them fell apart. The plastic ends just crumbled. I need to replace them.

I was tempted to get the gapping tool when I ordered a new battery harness from the 944Store, but it sounds like you didn't use it?

There certainly is a wide range of pricing for these sensors. FCP Euro has the FAE and Facet for $59 and $47. A genuine Porsche will set you back around $318 (!), but I did find an OE Bosch 0 261 210 003 at Amazon (2-3 wks order) for $112. I may grab a couple of those. AFAIK, the sensor is our 951 have not been changed, but the S2 had the reference sensor changed in 2012, but not the speed sensor, so maybe I need four of these, ha, ha.

They worked just fine. I didn’t need the gap tool since I didn’t touch the mounting bracket.

Maybe a small sample size, but the FAE sensors have had some quality/design issues in the past. I'd stick with Bosch....

It's anyone's guess what price will show up for you. When I added them to my cart they were $112 each and a week or so later the price had dropped to $76.64. Today they are $76.69... but Amazon has a way of adjusting pricing dynamically so if interested you might want to jump on these.

UPDATE: After about 2-1/2 months of waiting on my Amazon order today I finally received one of the sensors I ordered, but it wasn't the correct part number, it was a Bosch 0 986 280 799, which can be purchased for $60 or less. Therefore, I'm going to return it and I cancelled the rest of the order. Classic bait and switch.

I do think either part number will work. Supposedly the 0 986 280 799 has a 100mm or so longer cord than the one I ordered, but no need to keep it since I can get them from Pelican, etc. for less.

Curious what most people use and whether the longer length is actually good.

So, if you go to Pelican Parts and search on the Porsche p/n 944-606-115-00 you'll come up with genuine Porsche, Bosch, Hamburg-Technic and Facet. The Bosch listed was $66.00 (no part no provided) and it has a note that it's 610 mm length, which is longer than the factory part. I never saw this one as I searched on the 0 261 210 003 number with Google and got a Pelican hit for the Bosch 003 at $150.25, which is why I ordered them on Amazon.

Reading reviews, a few people liked the longer length of the cheaper Bosch part. The price is certainly good.
