When they swapped in the '86 ENGINE harness, they left in the '87 DASH harness, and didn't know how to deal with the wires in those mis-matched connectors, so just cut the wires and left them disconnected. You just patched an '87 dash harness to an '86 engine harness. Good job. :) Or should I say, you patched part of it. The '86 engine harness doesn't have a hook up for the oil level sender, so if you want to get your car/dash to fully functional, you'll need to add your own wiring from the oil level sender (side of oil pan) to the appropriate wires left dangling from that flat black 8-pin dash harness connector.
Once again, Tom beat me to the punch! :)

I will add one minor thing: It's just one wire from the oil level sender to pin 8 on the black connector. So relatively simple to add if you go that route.

Hmm, I wonder if the reason I have the general warning light on is because I am missing the oil level? Is there a way to bypass this for now? I don’t have any other light on.

Never mind, I google it and apparently all I have to do is ground that wire to disable the oil level function.

If it stays on after dealing with the oil sender, check the hand brake switch. A lot of times, the handle isn't able to engage the switch enough so you need to wiggle it and/or make sure it all the way down to get that light to go out.
