I did the whole car primarily because I live in a house with 2 small children and I share the garage with all their bicycles and big toys. So there's a lot of in and out going on through the garage and I just wanted that extra little piece of mind that any extra layer of protection to the car's paint would offer. It was expensive though ($5k+) and one of the very first things I purchased for the car. So far, in two years of ownership and roughly 8000 miles, I've already had a couple of very small rock chips that would have damaged the paint if not for the film. You can see a few tiny little gouges that don't go past the film layer and you can see it did it's job. The most important thing is the installation. Find a reputable installer, not the cheapest. There should be almost zero visible edges except in a couple of small spots where it's unavoidable.

I did the entire car; love the fact that there are zero lines and even removing the factory rear fender covers looks better.

I live in NYC and am regularly reminded how glad I am that I did a full car PPF coverage. I'm going to hold onto this car for a while, so it was a good investment.

Aside from rock chips from other cars, our cars can be assaulted from different angles here. Driving under elevated highways and trains in Brooklyn can have little things raining down, for example, so having the roof and rear fenders covered is great insurance.

With the state of roads around here there is lots of gravel and other things that get kicked up. Having full protection on the rear fenders, as well as extended PPF rock guards in front of the rear wheels (on top of the regular PPF for a double layer) has paid off.

What are extended PPF rock guards? I looked it up after I read your post and cannot find anything. I will now get a full PPF since that was the direction I was leaning as well I live in the NYC metro area.

It was suggested by my ppf installer and something specific he does on 911s.

They PPF wrap the entire car, then they put a second layer on the entire area shown in the attached photo since that area is more prone to rock chips from the front wheels. This way it is extra strong/thick there and if you wanted to replace just that top section in the future you wouldn't have to replace the giant single sheet that covers the sills, fenders and roof rail area.

They also wrapped the edges of the second layer's PPF so that there are fewer exposed edges than a typical factory stone guard, so it looks a lot better.

My PPF guy did that too, doubling up where the traditional 930 rock guards go....

I've only done the front on my 991.2 and now, my new 992. On both, I had the rest of the car ceramic coated. When I traded the 991.2, there were zero chips in the paint but it did not increase the car's value in the eyes of the dealer. If you plan on tracking the car, then I would seriously consider PPF on the whole car but, for daily driving, I'm not sure you really need it, especially given the cost. My two cents worth!

I've done full car twice and I'll never go back. Makes washing the car carefree as well since you don't worry about micro scratches or swirling. The good films are auto healing so even if they have little scratches, they seal up in a little sunlight and heat. I've done both glossy and stealth by xpel. Both are awesome.

I did Full PPF. I live in Arizona. We have rocks everywhere.
