JP4931 wrote: Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:32 pm So far with the PIWIS a friend has done the following to my 21 CGTS. I would never have a clue on how to do this at all myself. It amazes me how much that can be done with just a few clicks to activate or turn something off.

Blinker blinks five times now
Actual water temp
Seat belt warning off
No more horn beeping at lock
Added a line for 19" track tires
Navigation
Track precision app
Auto Start Stop deactivated

I also know that power steering assist can be turned on or off.
Nice! Several of those changes would be great to have for the GT4.
I had coded the first two and the last one. I also changed coding so the doors don’t open each time I open the trunk.

Got all of those done but the 5 blinks and horn beep, still undecided on them. Again, this is fun!

This sheet was linked from a similar thread on the 718 forum, it is for the Macan but since they use the same electronics family it crosses over.

Playing with the Expert mode menu now, I don't see AFR and timing. It is mostly temperature and fuel economy

Edit: Was driving around today and this was the first time I could see my speed on my analog speedometer during the day since I bought the car. I set the dials to "all white" which means the dials are back lit without the headlights on, Satisfying!

Using info learned here, I successfully coded my water temp gauge to read actual values and changed the lane change feature from 3 to 5 blinks. I'm using a Launch x431 I bought on Amazon for $200 (after applying for a credit card). Neat! I'm planning to do some similar coding on my Cayenne and then explore some more things I might do to my 718. Thanks to all the pioneers on thus forum.

@arne2 In the 981 forums I see that the Electronic Power Steering profile is adjustable and people have been switching to the GT3 profile and report to like the new steering feel. On my 718(982) chassis I have not yet found where this is adjustable. I am simply wondering if this is something you have found or do you know if it is not adjustable on the 718?

Thank you,
Jeremy

@J-Dub - I haven't seen anything like that. Two possible reasons. One is that I've never looked.

But the other is that that option may not be available on our 718s. When I was shopping for a Cayman, I drove a Base 981 and the 718 I bought almost back to back. And I noticed immediately that the 718 steering feel was much better than the 981. I've since seen claims that the the 718s all got an improved steering profile from one of the 911 models. So it is possible that this option is already present, by default. Maybe someone else knows more about that and can fill us in.

My guy could not find that option for my 21 CGTS either. You can add or remove power steering assist but I definitely do not want that on my car.

Thanks @Arne2 and @JP4931 .

I will keep looking and report back if I find it but I do like Arne's suggestion that the improved profile is already included.

John, there's no doubt the Piwis III is the ne plus ultra of diagnostic tools, but at a cost out of reach of many of us. The fact that it reads in German is also a hurdle many (myself included) don't want to deal with, using Google translate is very cumbersome.
Less expensive tools such as my x431 perform many of the functions for less than one dealer visit for programming or coding(if the dealer will even do this), and I'm totally satisfied with my low cost shade tree solution. YMMV.

[FYI I deleted the post from "John" that Bill is responding to above, as it appeared to originate from a spambot. --Tom]

I don’t care for turning on side markers, and I’m not interested in adding the gauge lights. I’d just like DRL to mean having some nice-looking indicators both front and rear.
Yes. No side marker, gauges or license lights. The parameter for this one is:

SYSTEM SELECTION> Front End Electronics > Coding Value--Exterior Lighting--Exterior Lighting: DDL with Position and tail light = Yes
{Default: No}

Finally got around to trying out the X-431. I did this, which had the intended effect. Also made the frunk/trunk not unlock, and changed the way the A/C memory works. Thanks to a bunch of folks in this thread who've made that all easier!

Next up I'm trying to figure out if I can get the clock to synchronize time from GPS, even though I don't have the Nav option. When I attempt to go into the PCM set of options the X-431 puts up a notice about "Feature Activation" that I've declined so far. Not sure what it's about.

I found a couple clock/GPS-related options under Instrument Cluster. Not sure what it means that they're set to "Shutdown".
  • Board computer display configuration [keys 1-4] -BC configuration byte 13-GPS time
  • Board computer display configuration factory setting-BC configuration byte 13--GPS time
  • Board computer menu configuration-Board computer menu configuration - byte 7-GPS time
  • Further codings-Further codings byte 3-Time synchronization 2 minutes in GPS

You can't use GPS-sync unless you have a GPS antenna installed. Obviously you'd have one if you had Nav, but you may also have an antenna if your car was spec'd with Porsche Connect.
